Let me begin by saying thanks to Rick Gengenbacher for serving our club for 8 years as the editor of our weekly bulletin. Having filled in for him a couple of times in the past I have some idea what I am getting into in taking over. I hope I can keep the bulletin up to the level Rick put it at. Now to the meeting. We had a very good turnout to welcome in Perry Terwelp as the Club's newest President. Everyone came to give Perry their good wishes for the year ahead and two or three even showed up to win the card draw money. Shame on them. For those who didn't make the meeting, you missed one of the most shameless induction ceremonies with all oath takers "stating their name" to generate quite a laugh from all. That ceremony was performed by District Director Dennis Koch. Once the ceremony concluded, Art Awerkamp had the honors of announcing the John Tripp Distinguished Service Award winner...as Gary Peters. Gary's long standing service to the club was recognized and a deserving winner he is. His wife, Sandi and his daughter Tiffany Vogel shared the moment with him. Congratulations Gary! President Steve Green capped off his wonderful year as president by thanking numerous people for helping during the year. Speaking of helping, Steve also announced that he would be the 2015 Gus Macker Chairman. He also asked for someone to step up and chair the 2014 event. During President Green's tenure, the club grew by two members and also established "life-time" memberships for Skip Reuter and Sonny Christner. The Club also formed a committee to assist in finding speakers with the first V.P. heading it. The Club also established a committee to find sponsors for the Gus Macker tournament under President Green's guidance. Steve also mentioned that he told his one and only joke during his presidency during his first meeting which was one too many according to Skip Reuter. President Green was then presented a presidential plaque by incoming President Terwelp. Then President Terwelp greeted the members thanking Past President Kent Anderson for asking him to become President and stated his motto would be "if you don't learn from the past then you are deemed to repeat it". Was that a slam at past presidents? He also said he would start a new tradition of a "Casual Dressed Award". His first recipients were Mel Dillman and Curt Moore and both received a candy bar. But the surprise of the meeting was that President Perry Terwelp was interrupted during his comments when "HIS" cell phone went off thus ending an unknown time period of being cell-less.

This & That

Ron Fritts handled the prayer, Les Sachs led us in the pledge and I handled the tail- twisting duties. Good to have Tim Wiewel back with us. Mike Disseler brought his son, Aubrey, as his guest. President Green and yours truly thanked everyone who came out to help with the flag ceremony at the Quincy Gems game Monday. Yes, I was there with my "thimble" on. Paul Shriver presented his membership certificate and pin. Welcome again Paul! Dennis Koch wanting to update the club's membership roster information so if you have changed anything lately (not including your underwear) please contact Dennis. Kent Anderson is asking for members to sign up or find recruits for the upcoming Certified Barbeque Judging Class on Saturday, August 4th. Only have 4 people so far. Contact Kent with questions. Rick Veihl had the winning ticket but drew a 6 of spades in the card draw. Pot was over $1600 and no Brian Musholt sighting. Somebody call him to see if he is alright. Thus ends the first ever bulletin penned by your new editor. If you have any information you would like for me to include in future bulletins, please contact me at 242-7608 or e-mail me at jeff.dorsey@townsquaremedia.com.
