The Big Basketball Preview in this basketball-crazy town. Join us as we welcome the boys' and girls' coaches from Quincy High School and Quincy Notre Dame High School and the men's and women's coaches from Quincy University and John Wood Community College. KHQA's Chris Duerr will serve as our special master of ceremonies for the day as we hear from the coaches and learn about their respective teams. We've received regrets from QU's Coach Jeni Garber and JWCC's Coach Norm Rodriguez but we do expect the remaining six coaches to join us. Should be a special day so please join us Friday for Quincy's Finest Hour. (Please note the "Plan of the Week" below for some additional information about the day.) |

| Our Annual Veterans Day Observance with Iraqi War Veteran and Army Captain (ret.) Justin Jennings providing the keynote address. Captain Jennings was introduced by our 2010 Veterans Day speaker; Jay Schaefer. Appropriate as the two deployed to Iraq together. Captain Jennings' outstanding speech focused on service to our country with an emphasis on military service. An honor to have the good captain with us! We thank Mel Dillman for his great work on the special program. |

| My thanks to Mel Dillman for providing notes, after the fact, of last week's meeting as I watched my daughter, Kristen, and her volleyball teammates win the IHSA 2A State Championship in Bloomington. (Please allow just that bit of bragging.) Mel was able to remember a lot but he admittedly suffers from CRS - "Can't Remember Shit" so it is possible he missed a few things... Lots of guests in attendance including Lisa Goughnour's ninth grade TAG History class. About 40 young people attended our Veterans Day meeting on a day they did not have school. Speaks highly of them, their parents, and of course, their teacher (who is the better half of Rick). The class presented the club with $200 they raised for the Great River Honor Flight program. We'll pass those funds on to Carlos Fernandez. Also in attendance were Kent Anderson's father and Doug Greenwell's father. Both participated in Honor Flights and shared their experiences. Mel noted as many as 12-15 veteran guest were in attendance. Good stuff... Mike Lavery read a patriotic poem and Mel introduced all Exchangites who served... Kudos to Jeff Dorsey for his great work as master of ceremonies at the Annual Veterans Day Program at the Veterans Home - which I understand several Exchangites attended... Meet this week but not next. Against my will but out of respect for the late John Tripp, there will be a bulletin... Can you believe our next meeting after this Friday will be December 2nd? December already? Crazy! I'm reminded "the older you get the longer the days get but the faster the years fly". How true... That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love. |
