Quote of the Week

"I've reached the age in life where I need my glasses on to see my notes and my glasses off to see your faces!"

 - Speaker Cheryl Waterman referencing what many Exchangites have noticed themselves.  Things just happen when you get older; you don't have to like it, you just have to deal with it!

Point to Ponder

"Poor is the nation that has no heroes but beggard is the nation that has and forgets them."  Not sure who this quote is attributed to but it is certainly appropriate as we pause this week to thank all the men and women who have honorably served this great nation in our Armed Forces.  These are the men in our club who have done so: Hal Broadwater, Sonny Christner, Mel Dillman, Gerald Ebbing, Dr. Frank Gianfriddo, Fred Lauder, Jim Lierly, Jimmie Louthen, Curt Moore, Skip Rueter, Jim Totsch, Elvin Townsend, and myself.

November 11, 2011
This Friday Morning
Private JoeYou are invited to the Illinois Veterans Home for the Annual Veterans Day Program.  Starts Friday (11/11) at 10:00 a.m. in Lippincott Hall.  Fellow Exchangite Jeff Dorsey will serve as master of ceremonies, WWII Marine Corps Veteran Warren Musch will deliver the keynote address, and the Quincy Notre Dame High School Band and Concert Chorale will provide the musical entertainment.  The program will include a wreath laying in memory of all veterans and a moment of silence at the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, and this year, the 11th year.  The program will obviously conclude in plenty of time for you to attend the club meeting at ABVI.

This Friday

One Nation Under God

Our Annual Veterans Day Observance within the club (at ABVI).  Iraqi Army Captain (ret.) Justin Jennings will be our speaker.  Justin is the former commander of the 1744th Transportation Company in the Illinois Army National Guard (which is out of Streator, IL).  Justin is currently employed as a Veterans Service Officer for the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs.  In addition, we'll welcome the Quincy Junior High School TAG class taught by Lisa Goughnour.  Should be a special day so please join us Friday for Quincy's Finest Hour.

Friday Last

Nice to have Cheryl Waterman, Executive Director of the United Way of Adams County, with us.  Cheryl shared information about the United Way creating the building blocks (Education, Income, and Health) for a good quality of life.  She also touched base on the $1,111,111 fundraising campaign (which of course, Exchangite Carlos Fernandez is chairing).  Finally, Cheryl encouraged us to "Live United.  Give.  Advocate.  Volunteer."  Good stuff!  President Elect Perry Terwelp with the introduction.

Congratulations!
State Soccer Champions

A pleasure to have the Quincy Notre Dame High School State Champion Soccer team, under the fine leadership of Coach Greg Reis, with us.  Coach Reis recapped the great season and championship run for us and introduced each of the young men.

This & That
