| Quote of the Week | |
"Yeah, let's make him beg in person!"
- Mel Dilman's response to President Steve Green telling us about a request from Cornerstones that was tabled at the October board meeting with the thought of having their director speak about the need at an upcoming meeting. Immediately following Mel's sound bite, Gary Peters chipped in with "A little graveling goes a long way..." Can always count on those two for a Quote of the Week! |
| Point to Ponder |
Less than 100... At the October board meeting, Past President Dennis Koch pointed out club membership is now below 100. I think this is the first time in a few decades our club has been below that threshold. While I don't believe it is a big deal to have over 100 members, it is certainly important that we continually recruit good members who want to be a part of something special. We don't preach it often, but men, we need to bring in quality members on a little more frequent basis than we have over the past few years. When was the last time you invited someone to join us? |

Road Trip This Friday | |
We'll hit the road to see the brand-spanking new Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Crops Community Center (501 Broadway). Dedicated on September 18th, "The RJKCCC is committed to producing tangible outcomes that will change lives and rebuild souls of the people of Quincy." (Quoted from the center's website.) The Exchange of Club will add our touch to the beautiful building by dedicating a Freedom Shrine. In addition, we hope to have our Service Person of the Year, Daniel Bowe, with us. How appropriate to host Daniel as we dedicate a Freedom Shrine! Doesn't get any better than that so bring a friend and join us Friday for Quincy's Finest Hour. |

Always good to get a business update from Jim Mentesti, Executive Director of the Great River Economic Development Center. Jim addresses several areas but primarily focused his remarks on the many business parks and development areas within Quincy and Adams County. Jim passed out a color flyer that listed 10 of the parks/areas but told us there were at least two others. He also spoke briefly about the elusive Port Authority. Thanks for the update, Jim. Alderman Dan Brink with the introduction. |

Congratulation to Quincy School senior Alexis Eickelschulte for being named our October Youth of the Month! Alexis is ranked number one in her class of 536 with a G.P.A. of 4.5366. She is involved in the National Honors Society, Beta Club, varsity Softball, and many other activates both in and out of school. She plans on continuing her education at the University of Illinois where she will study engineering. Mark and Leaanne Eickelschulte are the proud parents. Exchangite/Quincy High School Director of Counselors Mike Llewellyn with the introduction. Good the have QHS principal Danielle Edgar and Exchangite/Quincy Superintendent of School Lonny Lemon present as well. |

Rev. Ron Fritts with the prayer and Steve Labs leading the pledge... Rev. Ron requesting a special blessing for Dennis and Brian Koch's brother, Don, who was recently diagnosed with lung cancer... President Steve recapping the October board meeting: $200 donation to the Baldwin School Parent Institute; the Gus Macker contract for 2012 has been signed (with options for 2013 and 2014); and the Macker Major Sponsor committee continues their fine work... President Steve reminding members about dues. If you are behind, please address... Jim Benz reminding us that over 900 cars participating in the Early Tin Dusters Fall Color Drive (last weekend). Jim noted the group usually raises between $11,000-$12,000 a year for Camp Callahan. Good stuff... I frequently give Jim a hard time about the length of his reports/reminders but will give credit where credit is due; his comments were well said and well received... President Steve presenting Dr. Joe Bocke with his national certificate for 36 years in Exchange... Former program director Gary Peters suggesting we schedule a program with Dr. Tom Klincar on "The Dynamics of a Community College". Like most of you, I just have to scratch my head on what happened there... Immediate Past President Kent Anderson administering the 50/50 card draw. Mel Dillman had the right ticket but picked the wrong card (five of diamonds). The pot grows; $262 this week... Bruce Broemmel collecting for the widows and orphans fund... 254 days until the Perry Terwelp administration and still no cell phone... See you on the road at the Kroc Center... That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love. |
