Quote of the Week

"I learn more at Kelly's than you can at City Hall!"

 - Jeff Dorsey's remark after guest speaker Bob Gough commented on rumors that the Mayor of Kelly's might be interested in becoming the Mayor of Quincy.

September 30, 2011

This Friday

Cape Air Join us as we welcome David Terry, Regional Director of Cape Air.  David, based out of St. Louis, will tell us about the services provided by Cape Air to the Quincy area and the possibility of creating a maintenance facility at Baldwin Field.  He'll tell us exactly what that would entail.  Rumor also has it that David may come bearing gifts...  In addition to Mr. Terry, we'll recognize our first Youth of the Month.  If you want to broaden your horizons and have a little fun, join us Friday at Quincy's Finest Hour.

The story of Quincy Journal.com and a few insights on the local political scene by long-time newsman Bob Gough.  Never one to hold anything back, Bob told us how his new venture is in conjunction with Star Radio and that the goal of the website is to make a difference within the community.  Bob also told us about a feature on the site called "Up, Down, and Around Town" that pays tribute to the late John Tripp.  (I pause to smile and remember the many fond memories I have of my friend, John.)  We wish Bob and the new sight success.

This & That

Jim Benz with the good prayer and special intentions for your humble editor - which are always needed and much appreciated...  Tim Wiewel leading the pledge...  Brian Shoemaker the guest of his boss, Carlos Fernandez...  Another week of multiple quotes to pick from for Quote of the Week.  Runner-up was Mel Dillman's "Someone got their bell polished?  Whoa!"  Mel obviously took a wrong turn on President Steve Green's comment about the president's bell being polished (as is an annual tradition) by Elvin Townsend.  Many additional, shall we say inappropriate comments about getting a "bell polished" followed...  Dan Selby giving us a nice overview of the 9/11 ceremony and our small part in the great event...  President Steve recognizing our newest member, Paul Terwelp.  Would you believe that Paul is one of only three new Exchangites the club has inducted since October, 2010?  We added six new men in 2010 but only three through the first nine months of 2011...  President Steve telling us about thank you notes from Quanada, the Bill Barry family, Rev. Ron Fritts, and Quincy Fire Chief Joe Henning...  President Steve also reading a letter to the editor from one of the KCBS judges who worked our Smoke on the River.  The letter praised our event and past chairman Mel Dillman in particular.  It was later discovered the letter was written by Mel's left-handed uncle...  Chris Parker had the right 50/50 ticket but picked the wrong card (three of diamonds).  Pot grows to $200 this week...  Bruce Broemmel fleecing the flock with story help from Sonny Christner...  I had planned on addressing service as a Point to Ponder but needed more time to organize my thoughts so I'll delay the issue a bit more...  275 days until the Perry Terwelp administration and still no cell phone...  That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.

Point to Ponder

This week we will start recognizing our Youth of the Month recipients.  For some reason, few Exchangites outside of those actually on the youth committee sit with the youth and their parents.  Understandable to a point.  BUT, how about if we all make a concentrated effort to welcome the student and their parents prior to the bell ring?  A simple "Hello, my name is...  Congratulations, we are glad you are all here" is a classy act for a classy group such as ours.  While on that note, please allow me to badger you about wearing your name tag too!
