"... and I have a short one!" Apparently I missed (because I had to leave early) this golden nugget inadvertently spoken by Steve Wellman who was complaining to speaker Dan Gibble that a driveway in one of the parks was not suitable for the camper he owns. Steve complained that it was difficult to turn around in the park and finished with the line above. Wow! Sure glad Mel Dillman shared that one with me. You may want to keep that to yourself in the future, Steve... |
| 65th/100th Anniversary | |
In case you missed it last week, the April 29th event to celebrate the Club 65th anniversary and the national's 100th has been temporarily cancelled and will be rescheduled. (The new date has not been established yet.) This means that we will now have a Noon meeting on the 29th. |

The statement credited to the first Exchangite Editor, Paul Clarkson and respectfully continued by John Tripp: In lieu of an Exchange Club meeting, "We'll see you in church." So go. |

A split program between our Gus Macker kick-off and Quincy Park District Executive Director Dan Gibble. Always a pleasure to have King of Gus Macker Scott McNeal with us. Scott expressed his sincere appreciation for what we do and how we do and then gave us the low-down on changes for this year. After Scott, we welcomed Dan to the podium. Dan did a great job giving us a look at the history of the Quincy Park District and then told us about their comprehensive planning program which will direct their activities in the future. As Dan noted, we should be very proud of our park system. Ours is as good as anywhere in the state, if not country. Lots of good stuff between Scott and Dan! |
| Bud Willer A.C.E. Award | | |
Congratulations Claire Sculley!
Claire, a senior at Quincy High School, was named recipient of our prestigious Bud Willer Scholarship Award (which is synonymous with the National Exchange Club's "Accepting the Challenge" or "ACE" award). Our award is named after deceased Exchangite Bud Willer and recognizes high school students who have overcome great physical, emotional, or social obstacles to earn their high school diploma. Claire has been in a wheelchair all of her life after suffering a stroke as an infant. Not allowing that to stop her, she will graduate from QHS this spring and attend Columbia University in Chicago this fall. The $1,000 scholarship she picks up with the award will certainly help in her pursuit of higher education. Just like our Youth of the Year, Claire will represent our club at the District level and perhaps National level. At National, she would be eligible for a $10,000 scholarship. John Johannes and Mike Llewellyn doing the introductions. Claire's parents Paul and Sue Scully joining us. Congratulations and good luck, Claire! |

Jim Benz with the good prayer and I believe it was Steve Green leading the pledge... The Newest Man of Action, Skip Bright, had the right 50/50 ticket but picked the wrong card (king of diamonds) so the pot grows. Should be near $650 when we resume on the 29th... A reminder, we DO NOT MEET this Friday but we WILL MEET on Friday, April 29th... GIVEAKIDAFLAGTOWAVE Chairman Dave Poland reminds us to meet at 24th and Maine at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, April 30th to hand out flags. Bring your kids or grandkids and enjoy it; it's a lot of fun... There will be a newsletter next week... As another reminder, no meeting this Friday, Good Friday... Happy Easter, men! Make the most of time spent with your loved ones during this wonderful celebration of the Risen Lord... That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love. |
