"Well, it wasn't that good anyway."
- Guest speaker Shannon Haerr showing his great sense of humor after repeated and yet unsuccessful attempts to show a Power Point presentation about HIS Ranch. |

| Max Johnson | | February 10, 1924 - March 27, 2011 We lost another good man on Sunday, March 27th when Mr. Max Johnson passed away at the age of 87 years old. In his 44 years as an Exchangite (he would have celebrated his 45th anniversary in August), Max served in nearly every capacity including president (1977/78), district president, and district director. He was the Exchangite of the Year in 1992/93. The Adopt-A-Grandparent program was perhaps his favorite and the one in which he was most active but prior to the decline in his health, Max was involved in just about everything. Max was not only a veteran (WWII & Korean War) himself but a true friend of all veterans. He spent countless hours volunteering at the Veterans Home as a bus driver on all off-grounds trips. Max truly loved Exchange and understood the big picture. We are a better club and better men because Max Johnson walked amongst us. Our sincere condolences to family (especially niece Judy McElhoe who took good care of him in his final days) and many friends. Max's visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM with an Quincy Exchange Club service at 6:00 PM. (Please try to be there by 5:45 p.m.) Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home by Father Tom Hagstrom. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #37 Honor Guard. |

We'll welcome local entrepreneur Tim Lung, who along with his wife, Tamie, own the trademark for Crawdad's Classic Gourmet Hot Sauce. Located in Camp Point, the fledging business was started by Tamie's father Cordell "Crawdad" Bixler, in 1995 in Gallatin TN. Should be a good one and will include a few samples so please plan on joining us Friday for Quincy's Finest Hour! |

A true honor to have Shannon and Susan Haerr with us and to educate us about HIS Ranch in Taylor MO. No doubt the two are making a difference in our world. The ranch has six horses and serves disadvantaged children with "lessons". As Shannon noted, they leave the interpretation of "disadvantaged" and "children" for others to decide. Each lesson is for one child, with one horse, with one guide and lasts about half an hour. Each child is required to do some type of chore with their guide prior to their lesson. Shannon and Susan hope to add fishing and a produce garden to the ranch in the near future. Good stuff and certainly worthy of our consideration of a donation, both individually and collectively. Paul Niemann with the nice introduction. |
| Newest Man of Action | | | Tony Nutt
Welcome, Tony Nutt! Tony is the "Newest Man of Action" and ended The Draught of 175 days since our last induction. Tony was sponsored by Curt Moore. Oddly enough, Tony and Curt share the same birth date of October 25th. Tony and his wife of nearly 27 years, Jo, have three children: Ethan, 31; Michael, 21; and Dani, 17. Tony is an electrician for the Quincy School District. Mel Dillman and Jeff Dorsey conducting the emotional induction.

Our speaker, Shannon Haerr provided the prayer and the man who stopped The Draught, Tony Nutt, led the pledge... Ralph Decker the guest of Paul Niemann... First reading on John Bright sponsored by Curt Moore... Macker Co-Chairman Curt Moore providing a Macker update and Court Sponsorship Chairman Vic Welper seeking assistance. Down a major sponsor, we really need to pick it up on the court sponsors this year. $300 buys a court sponsorship... Nice touch by Quincy Mayor John Spring and the City Council to have this past Sunday, March 27th proclaimed Exchange Club Day in the city. Thank you... David Grimm had the right ticket but picked the wrong card (eight of spades) so the pot grows. Should be over the $525 mark this week... Bruce Broemmel twisting tails and collecting dollars for the next social... Our very own Skip Reuter was roasted at Cedar Crest Country Club last Saturday. Exchangites Jared Haugh, Jeff Dorsey, Bruce Broemmel, and yours truly all served as roasters. It was just too easy... Exchangite of the Year and chairman for this year's pick Sonny Christner is ahead of the ball as usual. Sonny has started the process to select our new recipient. If you have a suggestion for a worthy candidate, please let him or any past Exchangite of the Year know... Speaking of awards, we are accepting nominations and highly encourage all Exchangites to consider nominating someone for the club's Book of Golden Deeds award. See Chairman Dave Rees if you need more information... How about the irony, as pointed out by Dennis Koch, in Max passing away on the day the Exchange Club celebrates 100 years? Poor fellow still never saw his beloved Cubs win the big one... One of my favorite days of the year on Thursday - Opening Day! Hope springs eternal... That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love. |
