"The Deer in the Headlights Look"
- President Kent Anderson had when the awards were handed out and the speeches were all over by 12:32 p.m. was priceless. President Kent looked stunned as he adjourned the gathering seconds later thus making it the shortest meeting of the year and perhaps the shortest in several years! |

Program Chairman Gary Peters does a GREAT job but it's tough work to do it alone. You can help make Gary's task a bit easier by suggesting and, just as important, making a contact or call to assist in setting up a good program. In other words, don't just bombard him with ideas. Make a suggestion and then offer how you can help make it a reality. Thanks! |

We'll welcome Shannon Haerr who, along with his wife, Susan, runs HIS Ranch in Taylor MO (at the site of the old airport). A quick check on the internet found: "HIS Ranch is a ministry that was laid on our hearts by God to make a difference in a hurting world. As the word 'ranch' implies, we offer horseback riding lessons free of charge to children who choose to take advantage of this service. We will also offer many other activities such as fishing, gardening, wood-working and perhaps a variety of others as we grow and develop. Our focus is for those who are at a disadvantage because of the circumstances of life, but we are available to all children - any age - or adults too, as the need arises." HIS Ranch has served nearly 1,000 children since they opened their doors. You can learn more about this special program by visiting www.hisranch.org or better yet, join us Friday for Quincy's Finest Hour! |

President Kent Anderson introduced Laura Kent Donahue who introduced Mark Hayes, president of the Bank of Quincy, main sponsor for The All-American Kids Awards along with the Quincy Society of Fine Arts. Mark then introduced Debbie Niederhauser, the Regional Superintendent of Schools who announced the winners. Mrs. Niederhauser referenced the late John Wooden's book which showed a pyramid for success which included character, integrity , and honesty. All characteristics of the three winners. She then announced the winners. In the Sports category: Malique D. Robbins, a 9th grade student at Quincy junior High School and a football player for Quincy Senior High School. In the Math/Science category: Katie Engelmeyer, an 8th grade student at Quincy Junior High school and a straight A student since the 3rd grade who has scored above 95% in both math and science. In the Arts category: Kelly Obert, a 7th grade honor roll student at St. Dominic's School with exceptional dancing skills. She was chosen to perform a ballet at the school annual Christmas Musical last December and helped choreograph dances for six other students as well. Each winner was presented a plaque and a $200 savings bond. Congratulations to these fine youngsters. |

My thanks to Jeff Dorsey for taking notes last week and to President Kent for sharing his agenda. I appreciate the assistance of both men in my absence... Eric Schultz with the prayer and Carlos Fernandez leading the pledge... No guests (other than those part of the program or covering it from the media), no card draw, no tail twister, no runs, no errors, and no one left on base... President Kent thanked Jared Haugh and the crew for the highly successful and first ever, "Burger Blast". If you weren't there, you missed a great event. Sorry for you. Our sincere thanks to Jared and all the men and a few ladies behind the scenes who made it all possible... President Kent also discussing action taken at the 3/14 board meeting. Board approved a $250 donation to Fishing for Freedom that will take place in Quincy later this year. A neat program that invites veterans to fish in a competitive event. Our $250 will sponsor a boat... Burger Bash Chairman Jared reports that after the first three rounds of the NCAA tournament, Art Awerkamp and Gary Hillebrenner are leading the bracket contest... Looking to induct Tony Nutt this week to end The Drought (up to 175 days this Friday)... Hopefully you saw the article and coupon about the Book of Golden Deeds Award in the Quincy Herald-Whig this past weekend. We are accepting nominations and encourage all Exchangites to consider nominating someone you know who has made a difference in our community. We'll present the prestigious award on May 6th. See Chairman Dave Rees if you need more information... That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love. |
