Quote of the Week

"That's Curt Moore... He's the one who called you an $@#%^@=!"

 - Gary Peters' funny line, right on time, when Rusty Merkel held up the first of three guns he brought with him.

A Point to Ponder

Ever been interested in running the club? Talk to Kent about being a club officer or Director. We need you!

March 4, 2011
This Friday

ArmyWe welcome back U.S. Army Sergeant First Class David Crum for his third visit to our club but first as our speaker.  SFC Crum is a recruiter and he will tell us about his service and the ins and outs of recruiting for an all-volunteer military force.  In addition, we'll recognize our sixth and final Youth of the Month (a QHS student).  Please join us Friday for Quincy's Finest Hour!

Rusty Merkel of Game Masters on the topic of guns.  Rusty, in the retail business for 40 years and 35 of them with Merkel's Hardware, talked about the surge in handgun sales.  He is seeing a lot of first-time buyers primarily for protection and an increase in women purchasing guns for the same reason.  Rusty told us there has been a slight decline in younger hunters primarily because there are less hunting areas for them to visit and that as a result, clay target shooting is becoming more popular.  He also showcased three firearms; a Lugar LCP 380 Caliber hand gun, a Glock Model 17 nine millimeter handgun, and a Colt AR-15 Military style rifle.  Gary Peters with the good introduction.

This & That

My thanks to Jeff Dorsey for taking notes last week.  Appreciate all that you do, Jeff...  Jim Benz with the prayer and Mike Smith leading the ledge...  Guests included Army SFC David Crum (our speaker this week) with Jim Benz and Tony Nutt (long-time Super Buster) with Curt Moore.  Rumor has it that Tony filled out an application for membership.  Perhaps The Draught (up to 154 days this Friday) will soon be a thing of the past...  President Kent Anderson informing us of the 2/21 board activity.  Three donations approved; $500 to QND (already budgeted), $200 to the Children's Advocacy Network, and $150 to the John Wood Community College golf outing....  President Kent also thanking Mayor John Spring, Sheriff Brent Fischer, Chief Rob Copley and Program Chairman Gary Peters for the past several week's programs....  President Kent also plugged the St. Patrick's Parade...  Jared Haugh provided details on the Burger Basketball Bash (see above)...  Mayor John Spring making a few comments regarding the situation with the Hydro-Electric Power plant proposal for Adams and Marion Counties.  The Mayor is hoping that there is just a misunderstanding between the City and the Federal Government in the process in which the City filed the application by creating a corporation too soon...  Someone needs to tell Mel Dillman if the City doesn't get it , they won't turn his lights off...  Skip Rueter had the right 50/50 ticket but picked the wrong card (ten of clubs).  Pot grows.  $420...  Brue Broemmel twisting tails and telling a great Irish Joke.  At least it would have been great had he not forgotten the first line of the joke which would have made the punch line funny!  Timing and remembering the joke are critical in joke telling...  Mike Lavery still on the mend...  Haven't been able to confirm but I guess Paul Niemann married last Saturday.  Our congratulations to him...our condolences to the bride...  Our congratulations also go out to the Quincy Notre Dame Lady Raiders who captured the 2A State Championship last Saturday night.  I am blessed to have two daughters, a niece, and several young ladies I care deeply about on the team.  A lot of fun to watch.  Coach Orne and the State Champions will join us on March 11th as we recognize their outstanding accomplishment...  That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.
