Quote of the Week

"Wonder where that line starts?"

 - Skip Rueter's not-so-serious inquiry upon hearing we are in search of a Gus Macker Chairman for 2012.  Nice to have a good line from Skippy again in this space; it had been too long since the last one!

A Point to Ponder

Please wear your name badge at each meeting - especially on days when we will undoubtedly have a large number of guests; like this Friday.  A quick scan of the gathering last week noted more not wearing them than those that were.  I'm as guilty as anyone but pledge to do better.  Please join me in the attempt.

This Friday

PolicePlease join us for a very special program - our 45th Annual Law Enforcement Day.  We'll present the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award as well as the Citizens Crime Prevention Award before hearing from our keynote speaker, Stu McArthur, who is the Supervisory Agent in Charge of the FBI's Springfield Office.  Please note an early start time.  If at all possible, please try to be at ABVI by 11:45 a.m. as the program will get started shortly after Noon.  We will obviously have a great number of guests this week so please consider parking behind the building.  You can access that lot by using the drive on the north side of the building.  See you Friday for Quincy's Finest Hour!

Friday Last

Good to have Quincy Mayor John Spring "share the news of our community" during his State of the City address.  Mayor Spring covered a host of topics but perhaps the best news he shared was when he told us he is now cancer free.  That's great!  Congratulations, John.  Among the areas Mayor Spring touched on were finances, public safety, transportation, job retention and job creation, infrastructure, and the 2010 Census.  Mayor Spring also applauded city employees for their efforts during and after the 2011 Blizzard.  Thanks, Mayor Spring.

This & That

Rev. Jim Totsch with the good prayer and Frank Hays leading the pledge...  Most of Mayor John Spring's administrative staff in attendance...  President Kent Anderson telling us about a thank you note from Crimestoppers and sending out a plea for new members (see below for more on this)...  President Kent noting the February Board Meeting will be conducted next Monday, February 21st; 11:45 a.m. at The Pier...  Jim Lierly had the right 50/50 ticket but picked the wrong card (three of diamonds) so the pot grows.  A cranky Art Awerkamp says the pot will be $405...  The next club social is scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, March 16th.  Chairman Jared Haugh has titled the event the "Burger Basketball Stag".  More information and sign-up sheets to follow...  Paul Niemann ties the knot on Saturday.  Run, Melinda, Run...  My apology for incorrectly noting it was Mayor Spring's fifth State of the City when in fact it was his sixth.  At the same time, I had previously noted this Friday as the 44th Annual Law Day when it is actually the 45th.  I guess I should do a better job of updating my notes after I copy and paste from the previous year...  THE DRAUGHT continues; this Friday marks 140 days since our last new member induction.  Let's break this record sooner than later...  That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.
