"I guess I owe you, $5.00, Jared."
- Gary Peter's quick quip after Paul Niemann confirmed he is in fact, still engaged. Melinda Haxel with just over two weeks to wise up... |
| A Point to Ponder |
"The unsportsmanlike behavior of one individual should not be a reflection of a school." Perhaps you recall those words by Central High School Coach Matt Long at the January 28th meeting when we honored our Character Champions. Coach Long made a great point. Our area schools are filled with great kids, great coaches, and great fans but unfortunately, sometimes mistakes are made. We should not dwell on the mistakes made by individuals nor point fingers at entire communities because of them. That isn't fair; a lot more good than bad out there! |

| This Friday | |

An honor to have one of our own, Mayor John Spring, take to the podium to deliver the State of the City address. Hard to believe but this will be Mayor Spring's fifth such speech. Some good and some bad since the last State of the City and we'll have the privilege of hearing Mayor Spring sort it all out. Always a good program so show up a bit early and maybe even bring a guest. See you Friday for Quincy's Finest Hour! |

Always a special treat to have Quincy native and Baseball Hall of Famer Rick Hummel with us for the "Hot Stove" report. Rick gave us a great run down on the Albert Pujols contract talks and some great insight as to what the summer of 2011 will bring the Cardinals in general. Lots of questions by the packed house. Gary Peters with another great introduction and he also conducted a fun raffle. Several of the items raffled were from Quincy University and in particular, their baseball program. Our thanks to them, as well as any other donations I may have missed. |
| Youth of the Month | |
Congratulations to Quincy Notre Dame High School's Connor Cramsey for being honored as our February Youth of the Month. Conner, as we learned from QND Principal Ray Heilmann during the introduction, is one of the most respected students at the educational institution. Conner is involved in many activities including Hands and Feet of Christ (HAFOC), Secret Club, and student council. He played golf this past fall, is currently playing basketball, and this fall will play baseball. Connor plans on pursuing a career in sports management and has yet to pick the school he will attend next fall. He is the son of David and Susan Cramsey. John Johannes and obviously, Ray Heilmann, with the introductions. |

Rev. Ron Fritts with the prayer while an enthusiastic Elvin Townsend honored to lead the pledge. Rev. Ron grateful for baseball, snow plows, and spring! Who could blame him... Numerous guests on hand - from all walks of life in the Quincy area. Most shared one thing in common - love of the St. Louis Cardinals. Wasn't able to catch all the names so not listing anyone other than three local baseball coaches: Josh Rabe from Quincy University (1st year), Greg Wathen from John Wood Community College (15th year), and Bruce Bonness from Quincy High School (1st year)... 2011 Gus Macker Chairman Mel Dillman reporting that several behind the scenes items already taken care of for Macker and committee meetings to start soon. Would you believe Macker just over three months from now... 1st Vice President Steve Green conducting the 50/50 again and Jeff Dorsey holding the right ticket but the wrong card (ace of hearts). Art Awerkamp says the pot will be over $400 this week. That's great news... Jared Haugh, a bit under the weather, announced tentative plans for the Burger Bash social on March 16th. More details in the near future but the social will include food, drink, and perhaps some NCAA basketball... Jared also fleecing the flock for the "widows and orphans"... THE DRAUGHT continues; now over 130 days since our last new member orientation. That's way too long, men... That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love. |
