Quote of the Week

"Next week our meal will be catered Chinese."

 - Gary Peters' funny reference to the Beijing Garden problems Public Health Administrator Nancy Bluhm told us about during the Club's January 14th visit to the Adams County Health Department.

A Point to Ponder

Love the name Maverick.  Cool name.  If my wife, Becky, and I ever had a boy we were going to name him Kash.  I always thought that was a cool name too.  Apparently the Good Lord wasn't so keen on the idea.  He blessed us with four beautiful daughters instead of a son so we named our chocolate Labrador Kash.  Darn dog is nearly two years old, 100 lbs., and thinks he is a lap dog.  He has cost us nothing but cash; ate two sets of retainers, too many shoes and boots to count, and my yard looks like an archeological dig site.  I should have went with Maverick...

February 4, 2011
This Friday

MLBThis Friday begins the "trifecta" of major programs in February.  (State of the City and Law Enforcements are the final two thirds.)  We welcome Quincy native, St. Louis Post Dispatch Sports Writer, and most impressive of them all, Baseball Hall of Famer, Rick Hummel for the "Hot Stove" report.  Always one of the favorite programs of the year, bring a guest (prospective member?) as we take in Rick's interesting perspective on the Cardinals, Cubs, Rams, Blues and much more.  In addition, we will recognize our fifth Youth of the Month for the 2010/2011 school year.  See you Friday for Quincy's Finest Hour!

Good to celebrate four outstanding young men as Character Champions.  Jim Benz took the lead as we acknowledged the positive contributions of Austin Kestner from Central, Jacob Ayers from Hamilton, Maverick McCarty from Warsaw, and Brett Baker from QND.  All of these young men, and their speaking abilities in particular, were most impressive.  Several parents, coaches, and administrators joining us for the day.  Thanks, Jim!

This & That

Eric Schultz with the good prayer and David Grimm (at least I think it was him) leading the pledge...  President Kent Anderson reading a thank you from the Veterans Lunch Program.  Those are the folks who provide a meal to all veterans in Washington Park after the Veterans Day parade...  Dennis Koch reminding us of the "Stand Up America" recruiting program.  As Dennis noted, our membership is down 10 from two years ago.  Dennis also encouraging any member interested in serving as an officer within our club or at the district level should contact him or President Kent...  Sonny Christner had the right ticket but picked the wrong card (queen of spades).  Call Art Awerkamp to find out how much the pot is or to register a complaint (of any sort)...  Bruce Broemmel fleecing the flock with help from Frank Hays and Sonny Christner...  Paul Niemann getting married in just over three weeks.  Anyone know Melinda Haxel?  Someone call her and talk some sense into her.  Just kidding, Paul...  As I finish this, the snow is flying and all forecasts call for record snow fall.  Be safe.  Spring will be here before you know it.  A bit of spring this Friday with Rick Hummel's visit...  That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.
