Quote of the Week

"Are these things worth anything on E-bay?"

- QU Girls Basketball Coach JD Gravina to his racquetball buddy, Dr. Tim Van Alstine, after WIU Golf player and special guest Emily Brink passed out the WIU golf marker gifts.

A Point to Ponder

Did Skip Rueter not hear his phone ringing during the prayer or was he just that deep in prayer that he didn't notice?

Road Trip This Friday

Adams CoWe hit the road this week to get a closer look at the Adams County Health Department's headquarters.  Still considered new by any standard, the department moved to the building in December of 2009.  Few realize the scope and responsibility of our Health Department.  Show up at 330 Vermont Street on Friday to see the new building learn more about what goes on inside and outside of it.  See you Friday for Quincy's Finest Hour!

A very entertaining and informative program by Dr. Tim Van Alstine, Director of Athletics at Western Illinois University in Macomb.  Dr. Van Alstine provided great insight into the NCAA structure and why and where the big dollars go.  WIU has 400 student athletes participating in 20 sports.  The WIU athletic budget is $10 million (compared to $4 million at Quincy University, $51 million at the University of Illinois, and a staggering $130 million at Ohio State).  Very interesting presentation to say the least.  Dan Brink with the good introduction.

Youth of the Month
Congratulations to Quincy High School senior Jake Kuhlman for being named our January Youth of the Month.  Jake is carries a 4.5185 G.P.A. and is involved in numerous activities including Scholastic Bowl, the baseball team, the golf team, Beta Club, and the National Honors Society.  Jake plans to get a degree in biology and is currently waiting on acceptance letters from several of the top schools in the country.  Dr. Joe and Denette Kuhlman are the proud parents.  QHS Director of Guidance Mike Llewellyn with the introduction.

This & That

Eric Schultz with the good prayer and Mike Brennan leading the pledge...  Good to see Dan Selby in the house...  Guests included Sean McDonough, WIU Assistant Athletic Director for External Relations, Dave Johnson and the aforementioned Coach J.D. Gravina (with your humble editor), Mike Carpenter (with Carlos Fernandez), and of course, Emily Brink (with Dad, Dan)...  Our thoughts and prayers still with the Dorsey family on the loss of Jeff's mom, Charlotte Anna Dorsey at the age of 85, on Wednesday, January 12th.  We look forward to seeing Jeff soon...  President Kent Anderson telling us about several thank you letters/notes and recapping activities from the 1/10 board meeting; a $100 contribution to Crimestoppers and planning underway to celebrate the 65th anniversary of our club and 100 years of Exchange...  President Kent also renewing his call for new members...  Several great programs just around the corner including the "Hot Stove" report by Rick Hummel, the State of the City, and Law Enforcement Day...  Perry Terwelp won the 50/50 but picked the wrong card (queen of diamonds).  Not sure what the pot is; please ask Art Awerkamp.  Haha...  Bruce Broemmel fleecing the flock...  That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.
