Quote of the Week

"An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in.  A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves."  Bill Vaughn (whoever that is).  Don't care if you are an optimist or a pessimist, just want you to be safe on New Year's Eve.  Happy New Year, men!

A Point to Ponder

Wasn't it just a couple years ago that all computers were going to crash and the world was going to come to an end when the calendar flipped to 2000?  2011 in just a few days.  Wow!

Road Trip This Friday

Our Holiday Celebration at the Quincy Boat Club.  Please join us for a special gathering to celebrate Christmas and New Years.  As usual, we'll have plenty of good eats (whole hog roast with sides) and good drinks (open bar).  We'll eat around 11:45ish and conduct a brief business meeting (to include a special edition of The News by Jeff Dorsey).  Just a quick heads up letting you know that we will need to vacate the premises by 1:30 p.m.  Please join us as we say goodbye to 2010 and welcome 2011.  See you Friday for Quincy's Finest Hour!

This & That

Not a lot to report with the off week but there are a few notes that I didn't get in last week...  Our condolences to Randy Frese and his family on the loss of his mother, Laurine Ann Frese, at the age of 95 on December 14th.  While I didn't know Mrs. Frese I couldn't help but think what a wonderful life she lived as I read her obituary and the legacy she leaves behind; survived by eight children, 26 grandchildren, and 43 great-grandchildren!  Men, that is the good stuff.  Please keep Randy in your prayers...  Rick Goughnour could also use our prayers.  As I understand it, Rick took a spill about a week and a half ago that sent him to the hospital for a slight concussion.  Hang in there, Rick...  I miswrote a couple weeks ago when I noted that Ric Hinkamper officiated a NCAA D2 game.  It was a D1 game.  My bad...  Have to love the weather in the great Midwest!  Two and a half inches of snow last Friday, 60's this Friday.  Slowly but surely inching closer to spring...  For those of you wondering why no Special Olympics basketball this year, just too tough to schedule with 1/1 falling on a Saturday.  We'll skip 2011, but as of now, plans are to resume the tournament in 2012...  I look forward to seeing you on Friday at the Quincy Boat Club...  Again, Happy New Year...  That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.
