Carlos Fernandez the featured speaker and Honor Flight the topic. Carlos' passion for this project is obvious. The project started on Veteran's Day, 2009, and 130 WWII veterans have been flown to Washington on four different flights since. Those veterans have come from Missouri, Iowa and Illinois with the oldest being almost 97 years-old. Carlos read a few thank you letters he has received and each one indicated how much it meant to them to be a part of the Honor Flight. He also encouraged everyone to attend the return arrival of a future trip to experience the excitement of their return after a long but rewarding day. There are currently two more trips being planned; one in April and another in May. 140 Vets on the waiting list. A nice touch by our club to donate another $500 to the great cause. Good stuff! |

My thanks to Jeff Dorsey for taking notes last week. Apparently Jeff pulled triple duty (notes, The News, and Tail Twister)... Prayer provided by Eric Schultz and pledge started by Frank Hays... Another great lunch (Fried Chicken) from J.J.'s... No guests in attendance... President Kent Anderson announced the board has agreed to donate $300 to the Salvation Army and $200 to Madonna House (result of the 12/13 board meeting)... President Kent reminded members that some still owe dues from last year and he would be contacting them for a status update. If you are one of them, why wait for him to contact you? Let him know... President Kent asked the brethren to invite new members. Not always the easiest thing to find new men but imperative for the success and continued longevity of our club to have new blood and fresh faces... President Kent thanking Art Awerkamp and Dennis Koch for their leadership with the Spousal Christmas Party and Santa Dorsey for work with the Hearing Impaired Kids... President Kent presented Julie Lockett her "tip" money. She was given the opportunity to take what was in the card draw pot or the envelope. She selected the envelope. Not sure of the total but well deserved either way. Thank you, Julie, for taking good care of us... As mentioned above, Jeff Dorsey presented the news - following a threat by Skip Reuter to leave before he started. Skip stayed and Jeff did great... 50/50 drawing conducted by Steve Green. Eric Thomas had the right ticket but selected the wrong card (nine of Hearts). Finally, pot will be over $400 for next drawing... Again, as mentioned, Tail Twister was Jeff Dorsey who told a Christmas Joke... A reminder that there will be no meeting on Friday, Christmas Eve. We will resume next Friday, New Year's Eve, at the Quincy Boat Club... Merry Christmas, men! It is my wish and prayer that you and your family soak up every ounce of joy to be found during this wonderful time. Enjoy it all... That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love. |
