Quote of the Week

"After cashing the check, the insurance company had the lawyer arrested on 24 counts of arson!"

- A true story, told by Len Biallas, that got a laugh out of all who were in attendance.

A Point to Ponder
If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, doesn't it make sense that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted, cowboys deranged, models deposed, tree surgeons debarked and dry cleaners depressed?
Smoke on the River
Smoke on the River Chairman Mel Dillman announcing that the 2010 event brought in over $8,200 in profits.  Outstanding!  This event has grown in popularity and profit every year, which is how it should be.  Great job, Mel!  Thanks once again to all who contributed.

No Meeting This Friday

Enjoy time spent with family and friends and above all, spend some time reflecting upon the many blessings in your life.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Friday Last

Mrs. Debbie Klincar (better half of Dr./Col. Tom) and Mrs. Cindy Strock gave us the history of ENCORE, formerly the Quincy Symphony Orchestra Women's Guild and how they came up with Symphony of Trees as a fundraiser.  The steering committee began meeting in 1990 with the first festival in 1992.  Held bi-annually ever since, 2010 is the 10th festival.  Highlights of this year's event, which runs from Thursday, December 2nd through Sunday, December 5th, are a Gala Preview party on Thursday evening, Breakfast with Santa for the kids on Saturday morning and Jazz with a wine pull on Saturday evening.  Plenty of auctions and raffles throughout the festival to raise funds for the music programs in the schools and community.  Since its beginnings, about $425,000 has been raised by the group.

Youth of the Month
Congratulations to Quincy Notre Dame senior Dan Mays for being named our November Youth of the Month.  Dan has already accomplished much in his young life with his focus on serving others.  In addition to being the Student Council President, he is also a drum major, a volunteer with Hands and Feet of Christ, an Eagle Scout, a member of the National Scouting Honor Society, and he helped create the highly successful freshmen retreat at QND.  Dan is the son of Bill and Sharon Mays.  Dr. Len Biallas and QND Principal Ray Heilmann with the introductions.

Back-up for Santa
Jeff Dorsey is looking for someone to fill the position of backup Santa Claus for a couple of upcoming events.  The Dates are December 3rd and 10th.  The 3rd is an evening event and the 10th is during our club meeting.  Unfortunately, Jeff's mother's health has taken a turn for the worse and he may not be available on these dates.  If he is here, he will do both events but if not the backup will need to step forward.  Please contact him ASAP.  One less thing the good man should have to worry about.
This & That

Eric Schultz with the prayer and Paul Niemann leading the pledge ... President Kent Anderson thanking all members who attended the John Ortwerth memorial service...  Derek Jennings, the soldier from Quincy who was severely injured by a landmine earlier this month, is recovering at Walter ReedMedical Hospital in Washington, DC.  His wife, Clarissa, passed along her gratitude for the prayers and support...  The Club donated $250 to Tiffany Frericks for her fundraising efforts for Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia research (CDH - highlighted here several weeks ago)...  Hal Broadwater announced the upcoming Gil Feld Memorial Scholarship.  QHS Guidance Counselor Mike Llewellyn and Chris Parker both volunteered to help with it.  More on that later...  Steve Labs had the right 50/50 ticket but picked the wrong card (three of clubs)...  Another draw was for two tickets to the Symphony of Trees event.  Sonny Christner was a lucky winner on that one...  Jared "Slinky ™ " Haugh doing his usual excellent job of twisting tails...  Former Golden Deeds award winner Linda Dillman the guest of husband, Mel...  President Kent announcing a change in the calendar year which will affect the timing of dues.  Currently our dues year goes from 12/1 to 11/30 of the following year.  Now our year will run from 7/1 to 6/30 of the following year.  Dues statements that go out 12/1 will be prorated - $260 takes you to June 30. (Anyone who wants to pay $440 now will receive a credit against 2011-2012 dues in July).  This aligns the dues year with the club's fiscal year and should help with cash flow...  Dennis Koch had sign-up sheets for the Spouse Christmas Party on December 10th.  We'll be at the Holiday Inn from 6:00 p.m. to whenever.  Open bar at 6:00 p.m., dinner at 7:00 p.m., and entertainment at 8:00 p.m.  Best of all, it's free...  Joel Koch on the Channel 10 late news Thursday night after sitting in front of Showplace 6 for 11 hours to be the first in line to see the new Harry Potter flick.  Interesting.  Sounds like Joel needs a wife and kids; they'll put an end to that kind of thing...  Skippy Reuter wondering, once again, if "this is the program"...  My thanks to Paul Niemann and Dennis Koch for their writing and picture taking assistance last week...  May not be much to report but we will put out some type of Exchangite out next week (remember, no meeting this Friday)...  Happy Thanksgiving, Men!  That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.
