Quote of the Week

"That's my cousin.  He was killed a few weeks after I returned from Vietnam."

I overheard this comment from Jerry Ebbing as he pointed to a poster with names and faces of several young men from Adams County who were killed during the Vietnam War.  Obviously a somber reminder of the sacrifice the Ebbing family has endured.  It is good to be reminded of those sacrifices so that we may never forget.

A Point to Ponder
Is President Kent's face still red?  Julie Nelson was so excited and surprised about the $750 gift she jumped into his arms and planted a big wet one on his cheek.  Certainly harmless enough but funny to watch President Kent turning 10 different shades of red afterwards!

October 22, 2010
This Friday

Back at ABVI, we'll welcome the two men, Jim Ponsot and Dick McKinney, who have planned and carried out the past two Veterans Day Parades in Quincy.  On Saturday, November 6th, the two veterans will oversee the third such patriotic event.  Join us to hear how they came up with the idea and then made it a reality.  In addition, we'll recognize our second Youth of the Month; a young man from Quincy High School.  See you Friday for Quincy's Finest Hour!

Road Trip Friday Last

A beautiful day and an outstanding program at the Quincy Art Center.  First we enjoyed lunch on the lawn (Could the weather have been more cooperative?  Just perfect!) and then we headed inside to take a look at the three different exhibits (Vietnam; Then & Now, Vietnam Memories, and 3 Photographers Preserve Quincy).  Our luncheon kicked off the Art Center's "Artoberfest" weekend.  We thank our hostess, Julie Nelson, and Exchangite Kirk Frageman for setting it all up.  As a nice touch, President Kent Anderson presented Julie with a $750 gift to support the center's efforts to assist (K-3) art programs in the Quincy Public Schools.  Good stuff!

This & That

Rev. Ron Fritts providing the prayer and Don Hilgenbrinck leading the pledge; we even remembered the flag on a road trip...  Dave Crocker the guest of Kirk Frageman.  We had a few others, but I couldn't catch all their names.  I goofed and forgot to introduce Bob Craig and Jack Kent.  Bob is the curator of the All Wars Museum and Jack is his right-hand man.  The two good men set up one of the exhibits we viewed...  Dues are due...  President Kent telling us about a thank you note from the SLICE tournament and giving us a brief update on the happenings of the 10/11 board meeting...  Dennis Koch still looking for someone, anyone, to attend the Lincoln Land District Mid-Year Conference on November 6th.  We'll assumed no one is interested because they already have plans to help carry the flag during the Veterans Day parade...  Rick Veihl had the right 50/50 ticket but picked the wrong card (four of diamond).  Pot still at $400 but sure to grow soon...  A great weekend for the Early Tin Dusters.  Good for them...  That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.
