Quote of the Week
"He's an agent, not the messiah!"

 - Your humble editor's comment after Dr. Lenny Biallas inquired what our speaker could do to help Paul Niemann.
A Point to Ponder
I noticed our Youth of the Month is involved in SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) and without making light of that fine organization, I couldn't help but wonder if we needed a similar program.  EXCADD (Exchange Club Against Destructive Decisions) could encourage members to make better choices on the amount of alcohol consumed during club socials and for a select few, offer PREmarital counseling...

This Friday
Quincy RacewaysWe'll welcome Tony Rhinberger to the podium to speak about Quincy Raceways.  It was a tough weather season for the old dirt track.  With events scheduled for the next two weeks, Tony will be on hand to preview those activities and recap what was undoubtedly a frustrating year.  What is next for Quincy Raceways?  Find a seat and find out with the rest of us.  See you Friday for Quincy's Finest Hour!

An interesting program compliments of Richard Elsenpeter and Elsenpeter Productions.  Prior to the start of our meeting one of Richard's talented performers, Ken Bradbury, entertained us on the piano.  A fourth generation puppeteer, Richard told us about the company started by his father that he has ran for the last dozen years.  Elsenpeter Productions promotes 32 talents from the tri-state area, including our own Paul Niemann.  Schools, libraries, and company picnics are just a few of the places his clients are contracted to entertain.  After Richard gave us his spill, Illusionist Eldon Roark awed us with his magical skills.  Good stuff.  Yours truly with the introduction and a good horse joke to boot.
Youth of the Month

This year, the Exchange Club of Quincy celebrates the 25th anniversary of our Youth of the Month/Year Program.  For you new members, we recognize six high school students each school year (three from QND and three from QHS) and out of those six, we select a Youth of the Year.  Our Youth of the Year receives a $1,000 scholarship (up this year from the previous $500) and then he or she represents our club in the district competition.  If selected at that level, they represent our district at nationals and have a chance to win a $10,000 scholarship.  Not too shabby!  We start the new year by recognizing an awesome young lady, Quincy Notre Dame High School senior Mackenzie Meyer.  The daughter of Jeff and Ann Meyer, Mackenzie carries a 4.04 GPA, ranks first in her class of 96, and has scored a 28 on the ACT.  Mackenzie is involved Girl Scouts, Art Club, SADD, Key Club, HAFOC, tennis team, and the softball team.  As Assistant Principal Lori Shepard noted during the introduction, Mackenzie represents what QND is all about.  Chairman John Johannes introduced Lori.  Congratulations, Mackenzie Meyer!
Newest Man of Action
Welcome to the Exchange Club of Quincy, Kelly Stupasky.  Kelly is the Vice President of Commercial Banking at Mercantile.  Sponsored by Art Awerkamp, Kelly and his wife, Amy, will celebrate their 19th anniversary in mid October.  The couple have no children but enjoy spoiling Bongo, their six year old Rhodesian Ridgeback (that's a dog for some of you slow guys).  Kelly is a cousin to Steve Peters but we'll not hold that against him.  Gary Peters and Skip Reuter conducting the induction in fine fashion.  Welcome, Kelly!

Rev. Ron Fritts with the prayer and Immediate Past President Kevin Curran leading the pledge...  Speaking of Rev. Ron, on September 8th, he and his wife, Cindy, became grandparents for the first time when daughter-in-law, Brianne, gave birth to baby girl, Tanner Mason Fritts.  The proud father is Ron and Cindy's son, Nathan.  All are doing well.  Congratulations, Ron...  President Kent Anderson telling us about a thank you letter from the Veterans Home for the funds to purchase several outstanding training DVDs.  We appreciate it, men...  I have been asked to remind all members that "Dues are Due".  Please pay up so we can pay the bills.  Thanks... Rev. Ron told about the great "Abundance Exchange" he was involved in.  Happened last Saturday.  A cool thing...  Steve Wellman reported that we are missing three extension cords from Smoke on the River.  Two belong to the club and one to Chad Argabright.  Please find Steve, Chad, or President Kent if you have them or know anything about them...  Skip Rueter had the right ticket but drew the wrong card (jack of clubs).  He donated his $5 to our Youth of the Month.  I'm not sure why...  I loved Gary Peter's line "Kelly has made Mercantile what it is today" while doing the induction.  The eye roll as he delivered the line was classic...  Poor Ray Heilmann.  The QND Principal catches a lot of guff when he attends meetings but last Friday he wasn't there and still got hammered.  In a caring way of course...  How many Exchangites plan on making the trip north to Carthage on Friday evening for THE GAME.  #1 in 3A hosting #1 in 4A.  Should be a lot of fun.  I'm guessing a crowd of over 7,500 not out of the question if the weather is good...  That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love.
