| Quote of the Week | | "We could have one at the Senior Center from 4:00-5:00 p.m. but it can't be too loud."
- Gary Peter's great line following Mike Lavery's suggestion that the Exchange Club conduct their own version of the Chophouse Hijack. |
| A Point to Ponder |
If you picked the ace of spades and the pot was nearly $3,000 wouldn't you let out a "Thank you, Sweet Jesus" or "Heck, Yes" when you flipped the card and saw the winner? See the video of Brian Koch picking the right card and then his ho-hum reaction at our website ( www.quincyexchangeclub.org - assuming Courtney Hageman has had a chance to post it). We'll give him a break and call it the shock factor... |

| Goodbye, Wayne McLaughlin | |
Wayne McLaughlin 4/5/1920-9/13/2010 | Last Charter Member Passes
The Exchange Club of Quincy lost a great friend and a part of our rich history on Monday September 13th when Wayne McLaughlin passed away at the age of 90. Wayne was a veteran, entrepreneur, excellent golfer, civic leader, true gentleman, and family man who made a difference in our world. As far as the Exchange Club, Wayne was our last surviving charter member. For those of you who are not aware, our club was chartered in February, 1946. Wayne's 64 year membership is inspiring. (Our next closest members as far as seniority are John Ortwerth and Max Johnson. Both have been Exchangites for over 44 years. As long as that is, it is still over two decades after Wayne!) Our thoughts and prayer are with the McLaughlin family, especially son Mike who is of course a fellow Exchangite. |
This Friday
| |
We'll welcome Richard Elsenpeter from Elsenpeter Productions as well as a couple of Richard's entertainers. I'm not sure I grasp the entirely of Elsenpeter Productions but it seems that Richard is basically a talent promoter. It should be an entertaining program from start to finish. And if this program isn't enough to get you there, how about the fact that we will introduce our first Youth of the Month? See you Friday for Quincy's Finest Hour! |
| Friday Last | | | An interesting concept and an outstanding program. Clinton Begley told us all about "Chophouse Hijack". Many had never heard of it but were fascinated with the notion of taking over a local restaurant. As Clinton told us, the rules of engagement for Chophouse Hijack are simple - must be on a weeknight; must mobilize at least 20 people; and there is no such thing as too loud. Mike Lavery suggested a similar outing (but with a lax third rule) for Exchangites in the future. Sounds like some real fun. The Chophouse Hijack group celebrated their one year anniversary on Monday, September 20th at Spring Lake. Good stuff. The above mentioned Mike Lavery with the introduction. |
| Character Champions | |
A very successful Character Champions seminar took place on Tuesday, September 14th at Quincy University. A much different format than in the past with 202 students athletes and 46 coaches from nine area high schools plus JWCC and QU. That is a record number of coaches. The parent portion of the event didn't go as well as expected but that being the only downer. Our thanks to Jim Benz and all the men who make this possible. We appreciate the updates Jim. Keep working it! |
| SOTR Team Raffle Contest | |
A big thanks to Steve Peters, Art Awerkamp, Jeff Dorsey, and Jared Haugh for graciously serving as team captains during the Smoke on the River team raffle contest. All told, we were able to sell over $7,000 worth of the raffle tickets. That is impressive, men! Here are the final results of the team contest: Team Dorsey, 506, Team Awerkamp, 440; Team Peters, 406; and Team Haugh, 306. We owe a debt of gratitude to Gary Peters (for all the things he does for this club) who organized and served as ring master for the light-hearted competition. Good work, men! |

| 50/50 ACE OF SPADES | |
We Have a Winner!
Congratulations, Brian Koch! Brian took home just shy of $3,000 last week in the biggest pot we have ever seen. Good for you, Brian. Brian now has a chance to do something special for his beautiful wife, Kelly, and three equally beautiful daughters. Anyone else glad it is over? It was wearing me out having to scrounge $6 every Friday morning! |
| This & That | |
Jim Benz with the prayer and Jerry Ebbing leading the pledge... David Adam the guest of Lonny Lemon... Nice touch by President Kent Anderson to recognize that Friday was National POW/MIA Recognition Day. May we never forget those not accounted for. Nor the families of those missing... Jeff Dorsey providing an update on Wayne Howe's status. Bottom line is that he is doing better but has a long road ahead. Jeff encouraged visiting Wayne at Blessing... I have been asked to remind all members that "Dues are Due". Please pay up so we can pay the bills. Thanks... President Kent filling us in on board action from the 9/13 board meeting... Sonny Christner telling us that Adopt-A-Grandparent is up and going at the Veterans Home... Speaking of veterans, Max Johnson in the house again... Dr. Tom Klincar asking for prayers for Mike & Tracie Fleetwood who were involved in a motorcycle accident while escorting the Great River Honor Flight last Thursday evening... Longtime Macker Super Buster David Adam the guest of Lonny Lemon... Rick Goughnour giving a nice recap of Smoke on the River in the absence of Chairman Mel Dillman... No tail twister last week... Even though the big bucks are gone, the pot will start over at $400 this week. That's double what it has been in the past... That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love. |
