| Quote of the Week | | "I can hear you, the rest of the world hears you, and the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon."
Certainly appropriate to remember the words of President George W. Bush as he stood at Ground Zero on September 14, 2001. Nine years ago but it seems like yesterday. May we never forget the lives lost that tragic day or those lost in the years since protecting our great country. Freedom isn't free. |
| A Point to Ponder |
Has the collective body weight of the Exchange Club increased since J.J.'s Catering began catering our meetings buffet style? The food is ALWAYS good and it takes real self-discipline not to pile it on. I doubt I've been the only one struggeling with this... |

| Need a Little Help Tonight! | | |
We could use a little help taking down the Exchange Club tents this evening (Tuesday) at 5:30 pm. Knights of Columbus grounds next to the volleyball courts. Many hands make short work! |
This Friday

Chophouse Hijack. Never heard of it? You are not alone. But, join us this Friday to broaden your horizons and to learn about an interesting concept developed by a couple young Quincy men; Clinton Begley and Chris Mackenzie. I was able to find this on the internet about Chophouse Hijack: "Born of the realization that most local restaurants had difficulty drawing patrons on weeknights, we decided it was a great opportunity to have a little fun, and get some people out and about in the middle of the week to support local restaurants. The premise was pretty simple. We setup a time to go to a restaurant on a weeknight and take it over. We play our own music, bring in a band, bring in an artist, play board games, show some movies on a projector... whatever we want. In exchange, the restaurant gets a little extra business on an otherwise slow night of the week, and we get to have some fun." Sounds interesting. See you Friday for Quincy's Finest Hour! |
| Road Trip Last Friday | | | We kicked off the 4th edition of Smoke on the River at Noon last Friday with a road trip to The Dock. Our thanks to Chairman Mel Dillman and his committee for another great event. Though Friday night was a wash (literally with the heavy rain), Saturday was an absolutely beautiful day. A huge thank you to all the Exchangites who made the event a success. By far our best yet but we will still do some "tweaking" and get even better. Look for more news and some final numbers on this event to be announced in the weeks ahead by Chairman Mel Dillman. |
| SOTR Team Raffle Contest | |
With the Pvt. Joe Golf Outing (fundraiser for the All Wars Museum located on the grounds of the Illinois Veterans Home) last Friday, I was out of the loop and didn't get the vital information. Look for a wrap up on the contest next week. In the meantime, you can catch a video of the awards ceremony and the winner of the Big Green Egg at the Smoke on the River website ( www.smokeontheriver.net). |

| 50/50 ACE OF SPADES | |
Sonny Christner had the right ticket but picked the wrong card (ace of clubs) so the pot grows. $2,948 this week with only four cards remaining (four of clubs, six of hearts, ace of diamonds, and of course, the elusive ace of spades.) Crazy! |
| This & That | |
It has been awhile since we had the large type but that's what happens when I miss the meeting and forget to ask someone to take notes... As mentioned, I was at the Pvt. Joe Golf Outing last Friday. My sincere thanks to the Exchange Club for the hole sponsorship... Didn't take long to get the news of "NO WINNER!" to the three fellow Exchangites who spent the day with me at Arrowhead... Hats off to Jim Benz and his committee for a job well done with the 2010 Character Champion program. The program for coaches and student athletes was conducted Tuesday morning at Quincy University... Perhaps the best part of Smoke on the River? The presentation of the Service Person of the Year Award. This year Jordan Hoyt, a Barry IL native, was selected. Jordan was awarded a Purple heart after he was wounded by enemy fire in Afghanistan. We salute you, Jordan. Hope you enjoy the Big Green Egg... That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love. |
