| Quote of the Week | | "I don't care how much the pot is worth..."
- Steve Labs quick quip after an Art Awerkamp comment which proceeded an announcement by President Kent Anderson that Smoke on the River Chairman Mel Dillman would be our speaker next week. Art's funny line was "Let's hope no one wins the 50/50 then." Were you able to follow that? |
| A Point to Ponder |
When Mike Lavery isn't going to be at a meeting, should he designate someone in advance to ask our speaker the first question? And if Dick Wentura isn't going to be there, should he designate someone to ask a "good question"?

| Time to Step up to the Plate! | | |
We need 10-12 hardy soles to help set up and take down tents Thursday evening at 5:30 and Sunday morning at 9:30 for Smoke on the River. With enough help, it should only take about an hour. |
Road Trip This Friday
| |
Please join us at The Dock (1021 Bonansinga Drive) on Friday to preview what will be another special weekend for Smoke on the River. Months of planning and hard work come to a head on Friday and Saturday as we host the fourth edition of Smoke on the River. Hats off to Chairman Mel Dillman and his committee and to all the Exchangites who will play a part in the event's success over the next couple days. Here are a few last minutes needs/notes:
-
32 teams will compete.
-
The Service Person of the Year has been selected (a most worthy recipient) and will be presented with the Big Green Egg on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. That will kick off the awards presentation.
-
If you still don't have a responsibility for the event, it is not too late. Contact Art Awerkamp or Mel. See you Friday at The Dock for Quincy's Finest Hour!

| SOTR Team Raffle Contest | |
Team Dorsey leading the way but Team Peters showing great improvement. Final tally this week as our contest comes to a close. Here are the cumulative totals after five weeks: Team Dorsey - 450 Team Awerkamp - 375 Team Haugh - 297 Team Peters - 239 All tickets (sold or not), need to be turned in on Friday. If you can't make it, send them, better yet your $20, with someone else. This has been a lot of fun and we thank Gary Peters for organizing it and obviously Jeff, Art, Jared, and Steve for serving as captains. |
| Friday Last | | | The gridiron report provided by four area coaches. A pleasure to have Quincy High School's Rick Little, Quincy Notre Dame's Bill Connell, Quincy University's Bill Terlisner, and Culver-Stockton College's Cameron Keller with us. The two high school teams are a combined 4-0 and the two college programs are a combined 0-2 with plenty of football to go. Classy young men all of them, the coaches gave us a brief preview of their respective teams and schedules and then took questions. Who knows, perhaps last Friday instigated a future renewal of the QHS/QND game? Prior to the coaches, Jim Benz, with help from Dennis Koch, showed a short video on Character Champions. Good stuff. We wish these coaches and the young men they lead nothing but success over the next several months. Your humble editor, a washed up high school football official, with the introductions. |

| 50/50 ACE OF SPADES | |
Rich Lavery, on behalf of brother, Mike Lavery, had the right ticket but picked the wrong card (ace of diamonds) so the pot grows. $2,734 this week with only 5 cards remaining. Finally, an ace out of the short deck. |
| This & That | |
Jim Benz with the good prayer and Fred Lauder staying awake long enough to lead the pledge. Just kidding, Fred. I love ya, man... Mark Hays the guest of Mike Smith and Derek Venvertloh the guest of his father, Dale... Jeff Dorsey providing us with an update on former Exchangite Wayne Howe. Apparently Wayne doing much better (after suffering a severe stroke) but still a long road to recovery. Keep him in your prayers... What a pleasant surprise to have Max Johnson with us again; because of the great efforts of Sonny Christner. I took a photo of Max with a number of Exchangites while we were at Sunset but then accidently deleted the darn thing before I got it downloaded. I was sick to my stomach about the mistake until I saw his smiling face last Friday and was able to take this week's Photo of the Week... Good to hear all is well with Bruce Broemmel. Bruce, on his way to the meeting, was hit by a hit and run driver at about third and Cedar. Kirk Frageman stopped to provide assistance. When I drove by all looked well. Shame on me for thinking they were up to no good... First reading on Greg Dryer sponsored by Brian Koch. Greg is the brother of Ron (Dryer) and Brian is the brother of Dennis (Koch)... President Kent telling us the board approved a $250 donation to Sunset Home. Steve Peters twisting tails and making us laugh... Gary Peters and Mel Dillman talking about "tit for tat" but I thought best to leave that alone... That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love. |
