| Quote of the Week | | "I was hoping you would win. I would lose, but you would have a heart attack and then I'd still win."
- Jared Haugh's line to Bill Barry after he picked the wrong card. Jared obviously saw Bill chance of winning and the shock that would have come with it bad personally, but good for business. That right there was funny! |
| A Point to Ponder | |
What pressing appointment does the RETIRED Rich Howell have every Friday afternoon that forces him to make an exit moments after our speaker begins? Just wondering.

Road Trip This Friday
| |
We will meet at Sunset Home (418 Washington Street) to hear Sunset's story and visit one of our own who resides at the facility; Max Johnson. We'll meet in the Villa View Lounge on the second floor (which is just above the main entrance and does have elevator service - look and listen for the aviaries). As far as parking goes, there are three lots at 5th & Washington as well as ample parking on 5th Street. Like many of you, I am looking forward to seeing our good friend, Max. See you Friday for Quincy's Finest Hour! |
| Friday Last | | | Good stuff by Tim Koontz of Dale Koontz Builders. Tim told us exactly what "green" building means and the advantages of doing so, both economically and environmentally. Good stuff and we appreciate Tim sharing his expertise on the subject and his outlook on the housing market in general. Steve Peters with the introduction. |

| SMOKE ON THE RIVER | |
Committee meeting this Thursday - 5:30 p.m. at Dan Veihl's river camp. Chairman Mel Dillman provided these updates: - Approximately 30 teams have signed up to compete as of Tuesday (8/24) morning. Still looking for a total of 40 teams.
- Please consider submitting an application for Service Person of the Year. A great program and can be done on-line (www.smokeontheriver.net).
- Our event now has a presence on Facebook as well as the Quincy Herald-Whig's The Local Q (http://www.thelocalq.com/node/1743).
- Sign-up sheets have been out the last several weeks. If you haven't signed up to help on the weekend, please do so.
- See Vic Welper or Mel if you know of a business interested in a sponsorship.
Please sell those raffle tickets! Keep in mind that sponsorships and beverage sales cover overhead (bands, winner pay-outs, trophies, etc.). We will make our money on raffle tickets sales and wristband sales (for the People's Choice).

| SOTR Team Raffle Contest | |
Team Dorsey is still leading the team competition. After three weeks, here are the cumulative totals: Team Dorsey - 373 Team Awerkamp - 247 Team Haugh - 246 Team Peters - A Refusal to Report! (Team Captain Steve Peters says his team is "going underground".) Will Team Dorsey continue to lead the pack? Can Team Haugh reclaim second place? What in the heck does "going underground" really mean? Answers to come this week at Sunset. |
| 50/50 ACE OF SPADES | |
Bill Barry had the right ticket but picked the wrong card (six of diamonds) so the pot grows. An incredible $2,356 this week with only 7 cards remaining! Only the Ace of Spades matters but how crazy is it that all four aces remain in the short deck? |
| This & That | |
Eric Schultz with the prayer and Travis Brown leading the pledge... Vic Welper the guest of Assistant Chief of Police Ron Dryer and Dale Koontz, father of our speaker, the guest of Dave Rees... A nice Macker recap from Chairman Doug Greewell. Doug reported a very nice net profit of $17,159 from the 2010 event. Doug also thanked the members of his team who made the event a success as well as all Exchangites; 65% - 70% of Exchangites helped in one way or another. Thank you, Doug Greenwell... Special Macker helpers, Robert Sapp Jr. and Wayne Davis the guest of Doug... First reading on Kelly Stupasky, sponsored by Art Awerkamp. Just what we need; another banker... Again, more great quotes than I could write. Jared earned quote of the week but Gary Peters' "Anyone ever seen a better stroking?" as Steve Peters introduced our speaker was right there... Not sure what it means but the losing team in the raffle contest has been threatened with a scene from the movie Deliverance. No wonder Team Peters went underground... Jared Haugh tail twisting. It was Sunday evening before my jaws stopped hurting from all the laughing... I've started a new piece in the Exchangite entitled "A Point to Ponder". Not sure how long it will last but based on the success of the Quote of the Week, I'll give it a shot. This will be things I don't know the answers to and probably don't want to know the answers to. If you appear, as Rich Howell does this week, in the piece, take it in stride; all good fun... Reminder that we are at SUNSET HOME, not Good Sam this Friday... That's all for now, 'til next time, may God's love, grace, and peace be with you and the ones you love. |
