HSTJ's Update on Project Beatrice

Baby Iris and one of her many canine companions..

A Home for the Angels of Tecolote
The dream of providing a better home for this deserving family has become a reality, thanks only to your support and the hard work of our dedicated volunteers.

It has been a busy few weeks, and there is still much to do and many items still needed for the family and their 40 dogs but we see a happy end in sight.

On 9/6, the Slab was layed, 9/13 the walls were raised and the roof constructed and on 9/20 the electrical was run. This Saturday more volunteers will return to finish the project.

Please visit the Blog for full reports on each phase and wonderful pictures taken by professional photographer Bryan Miller, who volunteered to photo document the day.

If you were interested in helping to finish this project and provide support for this family and the 40 dogs in their care, please consider making a 100% tax deductible Donation. A little can go a very long way for this family and the animals.

Project Beatrice began this past February, when we met the family in Tecolote, a Colonia of Tijuana. Beatrice, her husband and their 3 year old daughter lived in a small shed with a tarp roof and a dirt floor. Despite their meager resources, they had rescued and cared for 40 dogs! All were in excellent shape. HSTJ began assisting this family in providing medical care to their dogs, including spaying an neutering them and working to place as many as possible through adoptions. In fact many of their dogs are now on the web site and in the process of being ready for adoption! See Available Dogs.

Three months ago, several volunteers visited their location and thought it would be so great to find a way to build them a house - well we contacted Project Mercy, a non-profit that builds homes for the poor in Mexico and they agreed to help us make our wish a reality for this very deserving family.

You can read more about Beatrice and her family on the Blog, a really touching story.

Thank you again to those who have contributed to this project, it is because of you that any of this has happened. We are all so thrilled to be a part of this, and the family is so grateful.
