MLC e-News
Greetings!

The past year has been difficult for many in education. At MLC we feel very fortunate to have closed 2009 with record shipments of Bridges classroom packages.

We are grateful for the response of educators to our materials and look forward to building on these relationships in 2010.

Best wishes,
Rick Ludeman

MLC Virtual Bookshelf

Last fall The Math Learning Center launched the MLC Virtual Bookshelf. Compiled by lead Bridges in Mathematics author Allyn Fisher, with assistance from series editor Martha Ruttle, this extensive list of children's literature is categorized by math topic as well as by the integrated themes used in the curriculum.

"This tool allows us to share our recommendations of the many helpful and engaging children's books and other resources we are not able to offer directly," said Rick Ludeman, Chief Operating Officer.

The MLC Virtual Bookshelf includes the books recommended in the grade level support pages for Families as well as those referenced in the Bridges supplements.

A Textbook Example of What's Wrong with Education
In this illuminating and provocative article former schoolbook editor Tamim Ansary parses the politics of educational publishing.

At MLC we understand first-hand the challenges confronting a small, nonprofit publisher in a market dominated by giant corporations.  At the same time, we enjoy the advantages that come with remaining nimble and mission-focused.  For example, we can assure you that our development process is nothing like the "mediocrity machine" described by Ansary.
