Customer Spotlight: Cal-State and USC Use Red Hen Technology to Study So. California Fire Recovery*

SD fire
From February 2008 through April 2009, students from Cal-State Long Beach and the University of Southern California have used geospatial video in neighborhoods impacted by the Witch Fire in San Diego County; of particular interest are two neighborhoods in the Rancho Bernardo area that experienced extensive burining and subsequent recovery activity. The videos were collected at four periods throughout the study and were then integrated into ArcGIS using Red Hen System's GeoVideo Toolbar for ArcGIS. Using this software, the neighborhoods could be revisited, in essence allowing the user to virtually drive the environment even if they were not involved in the initial data survey. The result was that, for each time period, a spatial pattern of recovery can be visualized. These data were then used to classify areas in terms of recovery. This was done using a Recovery Score (RS) method developed after Hurricane Katrina, with this study focusing on mathematical analysis of the number of houses that are stagnant in their recovery within the line-of-sight from the centroid of each parcel of land. This is an example of the
fine-scale analysis that would be difficult to undertake without the data collected through geospatial video.

New Product Release! Testers Wanted!
Red Hen Systems is pleased to announce the release of RouteScout for FalconView with MediaGeotagger

Now AvailableFalconView Logo to US and Allied Military AND Federal, State, and Local Governments for Operational Testing

RouteScout is a plug-in that extends the functionality of the popular FalconView/TalonView mission planning and mapping software used by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and Allied countries around the world - enabling new mission planning methods and techniques that exploit geotagged multimedia collected from a variety of sources.

MediaGeotagger is a new stand-alone, companion application that allows for intuitive data collection, with an automated process for geotagging of video, photos and audio data. Users then create "projects" that can be shared with other FalconView/TalonView users.

Not part of the Military? No problem! The "restricted" TalonView version is freely available to most Federal, State and local government agencies. Contact us at defense@redhensystems.com for more details and to get you complementary test kit.

Red Hen Systems Provides DMRT Kit to Brazilian Army Corps of Engineers w/ MMS

DMRT ready to deploy in Pelican case
DMRT

The DMRT Kit, was conceived a few years ago by a Dept. of Defense (DoD) media specialist client. In order to accomplish his mission, this existing Red Hen customer needed a complete and portable media mapping kit in a ruggedized container. His solution is now known as the DMRT, or Digital Mapping Reconnaissance Toolkit. This particular kit consists of a Canon HD video camera, (2) Nikon DSLR still cameras w/ lenses, a MDL laser range finder, (2) Red Hen's Blue2CAN, VMS 300, and MediaGeotagger software, and suction camera mounts.

The DMRT solution proved to be attractive addition to the Brazilian Army Corps recent MediaMapper Server (MMS) acquisition. In addition to assisting with disaster relief efforts in Haiti, they plan to use the DMRT and MMS for creating a digital inventory of the Brazilian highway system, and in analyzing its condition.

The DMRT is a special order addition for customers seeking enterprise MMS and/or RouteScout solutions.
