Deploys Products & People in Response to the Gulf Oil Spill

In an effort to visually map the environmental fallout from the recent Deepwater Horizon explosion in the Gulf of Mexico, Red Hen was contacted by a consortium of Federal and State agencies for immediate access to a Red Hen sDVR and the MediaMapper Server. Agencies involved include the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM), U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (CIIMS Project), the Maryland State Police Aviation Command and the Geospatial Training and Application Center (GTAC) at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center.

This group has partnered together in the past to develop innovative geo-spatial applications for critical infrastructure management such as Virtual Alabama and CIIMS. Given the immediate and long-term effects of the Gulf oil spill, they have selected to partner with Red Hen to handle their current multimedia geo-tagging needs of protecting 200 miles of sensitive coastline and to investigate future integrations with other applications. Red Hen representative, Hoot Gibson left Tuesday to hand deliver the group's new sDVR and provide a short course in the unit's operation and managing data with the MediaMapper Server.

The Red Hen sDVR will reside on the ADEM's Cessna Caravan aircraft. It is also anticipated the group will soon acquire a gyro-stabilized gimbal camera to enhance the video quality. In the meantime, Streamwerx will be providing High-Definition and standard definition videography and camera operation services. Stay tuned for additional information on these developments in future issues of our newsletters.

Information Update: Garmin Geko 201

GSA- Account HolderHave you noticed your Garmin Geko 201 acting up? Is it taking extra time to acquire a GPS fix, shutting down, and your track data had the wrong date (Year 1990 or 2029). It turns out that there is a Y2k+10 bug which is affecting some Garmin models. Garmin released an updated version of the firmware which corrects the issue.

Check your GPS model's support page at www.garmin.com or use the Garmin Updater if it is supported by your model www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater
