Greetings from the dog days of summer! As the temperature rises, everyone is looking for a way to stay cool and keep entertained. This month's bulletin recalls a transportation and energy publicity stunt gone wrong during a similarly sweltering summer. The Crash at Crush serves as an excellent reminder across all industries to closely examine hazards and avoid underestimating risks before going forward with an action. Practical Lessons  Bulletin September 1896, 40,000 people gathered in a small Texas town to witness two locomotives deliberately engineered to have a head-on crash. What should have been a crowd-pleasing spectacle turned into a massive, casualty-filled embarrassment whose history has been preserved in books and songs as a lesson in risk management.
