Practical Lessons From Major Accidents
Vol. 3, No. 4 |
Greetings!
The energy industry has been rocked recently by a string of storage tank fires. This month's bulletin contains a personal message about the recent tragedy and lessons learned from Jeremy Goddard, the North America Risk Practice's Partner and Manager of Technical and Quality Control. Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMS) has also been a hot-button topic in the news recently. ERM is proud to offer a SEMS compliance program. Information about SEMS and how ERM can keep your company in compliance is found below. In addition, our bulletin has undergone several changes. The ERM North America Risk Practice has been busy expanding its services and the new list of offerings is quite extensive. We have updated our capabilities statement and invite you to click the Capabilities Statement link here or in the "Quick Links" section for an overview of all of the services we offer. We have also added a link to our Facebook account at the bottom of this bulletin. Following us on Twitter and Facebook is an excellent way to keep abreast of new developments in the industry, particularly offshore regulations. |
Practical Lessons Bulletin
Two significant storage tank fires occured in Europe the week of May 30, 2011. Tragically, four people died and a fifth was left in critical condition. These fires were only two of ten such fires that have occured in the last three months and have left a string of costly damages and fatalities in their wake.

- Perform a baseline audit of your facilities prior to the start of the regulatory audit cycle in November 2011
- Develop a 30 CFR 250 Subpart S and API RP 75-compliant SEMS Plan for companies without an existing management system
