Greetings!
Family is important to us
We are happy to celebrate with you Family Day!. As we all strive everyday to make a better living in this busy world that seems to demand a lot more from us as the years go by, we find ourselves more tired with little time left to spend with our beloved family. At Child Find Alberta we believe it's important to make a pause in life and spend time with family, especially with our children. We often work so hard everyday in order to provide for ourselves and families that some times we give up one of the most important things we could provide to our families, time.

Developing a strong relationship with our children takes time and effort, it is an everyday commitment, but it's worth it. A strong relationship will produce good communication between parents and their children, which is a vital part in the child's life when facing difficult situations. Children and Teens need around them at least one adult they can fully trust, someone who will listen to them and help them prevent and overcome struggles.

In Alberta family day was first observed in 1990 and it was proclaimed by Lieutenant Governor Helen Hunley, for Albertans to take time for their families.

This Family Day give time to your family!
Safety Tips for Parents
  every child safe from harm

With the days getting longer and the call to the great outdoors beckons us, so does the reminder for parents to have that crucial discussion with the children around their safety.

Some of the highlighted discussion topics should include:

·Reinforcing safety rules 'before' you enter a mall or large venue.

·Ensuring your children know their phone number and address.

·Parents - be alert to an adult or teenager paying too much attention to your child.

·Have a secret code word that only you & your child know, instruct them never to go with someone that doesn't know the code word.

·Teach your children to avoid talking to strangers and to trust their instincts.

·Identify safe houses in the neighbourhood (friends, neighbours) where they can go if they're frightened.

·Listen when your children tell you they don't want to be with someone and find out why.

·DON'T put your child's first name on clothing, knapsacks, bicycles or toys.

·Have a list of the first and last names, phone numbers and addresses of your children's friends.  Get to know their friends, be part of their activities.

Child Find Alberta
Child Find Alberta would not be able to do what we do without our amazing volunteers, the heart of CFA.

During 2008 & 2009 our dedicated volunteers contributed 5,101 hours of their time assisting with office administration work, poster distribution, educational presentations, fundraising, fingerprinting and special events.

We need your help again! Volunteer this 2010 with us and help us work towards the safety
children.

Meet of CFA's wonderful Volunteers

"I've been asked numerous times how I came to volunteer for Child Find.  Many years ago, I was laid off from the oil industry and working at an answering service until I could get back to my real career. I was working the late shift one night when a call came through for Child Find from the RCMP in Halifax. They had found a child and wanted to speak with the on-call person with CFA so they could arrange to bring the little boy home.  After I put the call through I told the other folks working the switchboard and we had to put all our calls on hold for a couple of minutes and have a little cry.  We were so happy because we knew that within a couple of days that child would be home where he belonged.  I thought to myself that I would volunteer for that organization because they do amazing work. So I did...starting in about 1997.

I have done countless fingerprinting clinics and when I first volunteered I was on the special events committee.  I like answering parent's questions and educating them a little about keeping their children safe and I like meeting up with other volunteers that I have gotten to known over the years.  But mostly I am happy to know that any child we fingerprint and give the All About Me ID booklet to his/her parents is a little safer."
