How Do You Counsel A Guy Like This?
I will call him Mr. H. to protect his privacy. His wife has
left him and their 3 children, two of whom are teenagers. Mrs. H has moved to another town, where she has been living with a series of men.
Mr. H. has
repeatedly tried to get her to return, but so far she has refused. He helps her with her frequent money problems, but she only laughs when he reaches out for her to return.
Mr. H will not accept what
has happened. His only dream is to get his wife back that he loves with all of his being.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR MR. H?
Can you justify your advice biblically?"
The above illustration is the story of the prophet Hosea. In order to "live his prophetic message to Israel", God instructed him to marry a prostitute who would be unfaithful to and abandon him. Hosea faithfully loved his wife Gomer as she continually caused him unbearable pain. Hosea was demonstrating God unfailing love and faithfulness to us, even when we refuse to love Him back.
What was your counsel to Mr. H? What is it now?
