Day of Reading at Oak Grove School

The Day of Reading launches Wednesday, November 3rd - Wear Your Jammies!

The Day of Reading is the ONE opportunity for our students to raise money to support their school. In the past, our students have purchased many needed items through this annual fundraiser including: our silver van, instruments for the music programs, LCD projectors for our classrooms, water fountains, and much, much more. Our goal this year is to raise enough money to entirely upgrade the Mac Lab, add a new entrance to the ECP and provide new computers for our 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade teachers. Each student may begin gathering sponsors on Wednesday, November 3 and continue until the actual Day of Reading on November 24. Students may collect sponsorship donations in the envelopes we will send home this week and through their own personal Day of Reading webpage on the Oak Grove Website.

What you need to know:

1. All students, teachers and staff will wear their jammies on Wednesday, which is the DOR Launch Assembly Day. We are wearing our jammies twice this year, once on Wednesday November 3rd and again on the actual Day of Reading - Wednesday, November 24th.

2. Check out your student's personal Day of Reading webpage when it launches on Wednesday.

3. Your student's folder will also come home on Wednesday! Please check the backpack.

4. Begin getting sponsors this week!

To learn more about the Day of Reading and to learn about year's goals, please visit Day of Reading on our website beginning Wednesday.
Moments at Oak Grove School

Oak Grove MomentWe are introducing this new section of This Week @ Oak Grove to share some of the powerful moments that happen on our campus. If you have a story you would like to share it, please email us. Thank you! Below is an account from Troy Sumrall of the KFA:

I happened to be at Oak Grove during the small kids' lunchtime. Aron, the lower school music teacher, was watching over the first graders getting their lunch and I stopped to tell him something. He said he wanted to write it down, so my job was to watch the kids while he went to get a piece of paper.

I had five little ones staring up at me. I'd learned from Joy to stoop down to their eye level to talk, so I did. One of them asked me, "Do you know what day it is?"

I said, "No, I don't. What day is it?"

She said, "It's Hug Day."

I answered, "Well that's a very good thing."

Then she said, "Have you had a hug today?"

I answered, "No, I haven't."

And she instantly gave me a big hug.

Such incredible thoughtfulness created one of the very finest moments of my life.
I don't know her name, I only know she's seven because today is her birthday.
I don't know who her teacher is, or who invented Hug Day, but thank you.
