Dec. 4-6-The Crested Butte Mountain Theatre will be holding open auditions for the
January/ February 2010 production of The Diary of Anne Frank. Auditions will take place at the Mallardi Cabaret Theatre at 403 2nd Street  
 
Dec. 5-The Crystal Palace Theatre with Mead Metcalfe at the Center for the Arts. Tickets are $20 and on sale now.  Purchase $10 or more at a local business after 5 pm on Light Up Night  & present your receipt when buying or redeeming a Crystal Palace Theater ticket at the
Center for the Arts, and get $5 in Butte Bucks FREE!
 
Dec. 5- Buddhism and Meditation Workshop at Yoga for the Peaceful! 10:30-2:30, $18 suggested donation. Learn about the philosophy of Buddhism, multiple meditation techniques to help you de-stress, quiet the mind, and deepen your current meditation practice. 
 
Dec. 8- Holiday Gifts from the Kitchen with Keely at Arrangements. Make something homemade this year for everyone on Santa's list, including the pet reindeer.  Beef & Cheddar Dog Biscuits, Veggie Dog Biscuits, Mini Cheesecakes with your choice of flavors, and Apple Raisin Chutney.
You will make all items and take them home to wrap and package for gift. 6-9pm  $60.00
 
Dec 10-  Wine and Cheese with IceBreaker at the Alpineer. For every $100 in IceBreaker spent, get $20 in IceBreaker bucks. 6-8pm.
 
Dec. 12
- Escape Bodywork Boutique will be hosting a Grand Opening Party from 7-9 pm at Rumors Coffeehouse. Join the party for free chair massage, henna bodyart, giveaways, snacks and refreshments. Dec 18
- Mark Drucker and Allison Keagle will open The Ruby Cinema in Gunnison.  This is the second venture for Drucker and Keagle, who began running the Majestic Theatre in Crested Butte in December of 2005.  The Ruby Cinema will operate in the Prosser Theater in the new College Center on the Western State College campus.   The Ruby Cinema will publish its contact information and its own website address on the Majestic Theatre website (www.cbmajestic.net) as soon as they are available.  There will be advance tickets available for opening night and beyond sometime before the 18th.  The opening film at the Ruby Cinema will be James Cameron's Avatar in 3D. The Crested Butte Weekly will print its first issue of the winter season on December 10th with new editor Molly Murfee at the helm. We will run regular weekly issues for the rest of the season. Press release deadline for events is Monday, December 7th at noon. New ad commitments are due Monday, December 7th at 5:00 p.m. Finished ads are due Tuesday, December 8th at noon. We are currently running a "New Editor Discount" for up to 20% off certain ad commitments. Special packages for restaurants and retail businesses are available.
We are also offering 20% off any ad paid for with Butte Bucks. The Crested Butte Weekly also participates in the Chamber Checks program.

The 8th Annual Wedding Show is quickly approaching!  The Wedding Show will take place on Sunday, January 17th from 2-5 pm at the Lodge at Mountaineer Square. Free Business Consulting:  Western State College's Entrepreneurship class is offering no cost business assistance.  The students have had academic preparation in dealing with small business problems, opportunities, marketing plans, business plans, and feasibility studies.  Start-ups and existing businesses interested in participating in the program should call Cathie Elliott (943-3055) or the Department of Business, Accounting, and Economics (943-2019).
 
The Trailhead Children's Discovery Museum is opening another temporary space this winter! It will be open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the lower level of the Treasury Center in Mt. Crested Butte starting the first week of December. Five month family memberships will be available for $125 and can be purchased at The Trailhead's new location or by contacting Meike Meissner, development coordinator, at 970-901-7591 or meikemeissner@thetrailheadcb.org
The Trailhead  also needs $10,000 to purchase the new custom indoor playset as well as a number of smaller exhibits without using funds designated for The Trailhead's new permanent building (which is scheduled to break ground in Crested Butte next spring). Tax-deductible donations may be mailed directly to The Trailhead Children's Discovery Museum at P.O. Box 1508, Crested Butte, CO  81224.  Please indicate "Winter Launch Zone" on your check.

Break out your costumes and join in the festivities! The parade will start at the 4-way stop at 5 p.m. and proceed down Elk to the Post Office for a tree lighting ceremony. Nomination deadline extended to tomorrow, Friday, December 4th! 
 
If you know of a business or non-profit that has improved the Crested Butte/Mt. Crested Butte Community, make sure to cast your vote for the Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Awards.
 
All businesses and non-profits that are members of the Chamber are eligible for nomination, and anyone can submit nominations.
 
Nomination categories are as follows: Small Business of the Year, Large Business of the Year (20+ employees), Emerging Business of the Year and Non-Profit Organization of the Year. We also recognize a business celbrating a Milestone Anniversary.
