It is heartworm season. Spring is here early bringing out the mosquitoes. It is the mosquitoes that can carry the early stage of the heartworm parasite. The parasite develops in the heart 5-9 months after the dog is bitten by the mosquitoes.

The American Heartworm Association now recommends year round heartworm prevention. As always, a heartworm test should be performed annually. The Snap Test is the most popular since it tests for 3 tick-borne diseases as well.

If the heartworm blood test is positive, there is a treatment available. However, it is a long process to rid the body of the parasites.

Muscles of the Inner Thigh
Dr. Jill Kusba's dog Leah continues to be a good demo patient...

    Being able to define the location of muscles helps with finding injuries to the leg. There are seven muscles of the inner thigh that can be individually palpated. Once the problem area is localized, an appropriate treatment can be started.
