July Music & Arts Camps begin July 13th!
Spotlights Shakespeare Camp - July 13-17 (ages 13+)
Students will rehearse and perform an adapted script based on Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." They will play theater games designed to teach acting techniques, improvisation and character development and work collaboratively to design simple scenery and costumes. Ideal for beginning and experienced actors. Camp Director: Jenny Kreyl Shoeman
Voice & Drama Camp - July 13-18 (grades 4-9)
This exciting week of music, dance and drama will provide students the opportunity to work on music and scenes from the popular Broadway show, "Peter Pan." Participants will be coached in solo and choral singing, dance, drama, and stage presence. Each child will be given a small special group or solo spot, involving, music, drama, or dance and will receive two private voice lessons. Special performance at Chambersburg's Celebrate the Arts Day, July 18. Camp Director: Jeffrey Noll; Drama: Jenny Kreyl Shoeman
Showstoppers Musical Theatre Camp - July 20-24 (ages 13+)
This camp is ideal for both the novice and experienced performer. "Showstoppers" will provide students the opportunity to learn essential musical theater techniques such as vocal projection, diction, creative movement, acting and song presentation. Each student will be featured in a musical selection and/or acting scene that will be specifically chosen to showcase his or her unique talents. Musical selections and scenes will be performed together in a public cabaret-style show called In the Limelight. Camp Director: Dr. William Bland; Drama Coach: Richard Shoap
String Camp - July 27-31 (grades 6 and over)
This camp is designed for stringed instrument players (violin, viola, cello, and string bass) to develop ensemble skills, musicianship and technique using a variety of musical genres. Students will learn several pieces as a full ensemble and also in smaller chamber groups, according to their playing level. Several days will feature guest instructors who will bring their expertise from diverse backgrounds. Instructor: Julia Emig

It's always so exciting to hear what our CVSM alumni are up to . . .
Jenny Kreyl Shoeman - Though Jenny Kreyl has been a writer since childhood, her playwrighting career began in 2002 when she wrote her very first full-length play Crystal Weeds. She became an internationally produced playwright in May of 2007 when Harris Superman was produced by the NovaStage Theater Company of Cambridge, Ontario.
A recipient of multiple playwrighting grants from the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts, Jenny's plays have also been produced at Philadelphia's Adrienne Theatre, The Star Theater of Mercersburg, Wilson College, Coatesville Cultural Society and Gettysburg College Theater Department. Crystal Weeds was a finalist in the 2003 American Theater Co-Op National Play Competition.
Jenny is also an accomplished actor and director. Her acting career has included performances ranging from film work to regional theater and Off-Broadway in New York City.
Jenny holds a BA in Theater from Temple University and a Master of Education from Arcadia University. She currently serves as Director of Theatre Arts at Renaissance Academy in suburban Philadelphia. She is married to producer/actor Mike Shoeman.
A Cumberland Valley School of Music alumna, Jenny returns to CVSM again this summer as camp director of the Spotlights Shakespeare Camp and as drama coach for the Voice & Drama Camp. Jenny is the daughter of CVSM faculty and Board member, Susan Whitelock. Find out more about Jenny and her work at www.jennykreyl.com.

Chefs' Walk a Huge Success!
The CVSM Neighborhood Chef's Walk was held along Alexander Avenue in Chambersburg on Saturday, June 6th. Local chefs Roger Tappen, Monica Kelso, Dave Munson, and Ron Macker, and restaurateur Tom Boock offered some of their culinary specialties at streetside booths as attendees strolled along the avenue listening to a variety of musical performers. Over 300 people attended the fundraising event for Cumberland Valley School of Music.
Plans to make the Chefs' Walk an annual event are in the works, with a tentative date for next year's event set for June 5, 2010. Mark your calendars and keep tuned for more details!

CVSM is again soliciting advertisements for our 2009-2010 Ad Book this summer and we hope you'll consider earmarking some of your annual advertising dollars toward this endeavor. Thousands of students & their family members, performance attendees, special event participants, foundation & corporate funders, faculty and the Franklin County/Washington County regional community see and peruse our annual Ad Book throughout the year. We encourage our many patrons to visit and support those businesses that advertise with us at every CVSM event. The book also serves as our Annual Report.
Display ads are needed by September 4, 2009. CVSM will design your ad at no additional charge if you supply a logo and text copy.
Ad Books will be distributed starting at the 20th Anniversary Gala Showcase Concert on October 25th!
