Recycling Resources!

My favorite resource for recycling or donating just about anything is:

Just enter your zip code and the type of item you want to recycle or donate, and they will come up with current information on local resources for those items.  It's amazing!  They include information on location, hours open, charges, if any, and restrictions, if any.  It's easy to use, it's free, and it's the most thorough site of its kind I know of.  Check Earth911.com when you're ready to recycle!

Dear   ,

My husband strung a hammock up in our backyard this weekend, and I've promised myself some swing time as soon as I finish work today.  Summer is here - are you making time for yourself to relax?  See this month's time management section for ways to make sure you find the time for fun and leisure this season.  Other tips cover resources for recycling and a simple way to create more space in your closet.  The key is to keep it all simple during these lazy days of summer, but then use your high-energy, more focused days to get things organized and get your work done.  Balance, and lots of iced tea and lemonade!

Enjoy your summer, and let me know how I can help you find more time to enjoy it!

Time Management Thought

"Summertime, and the livin' is easy."

... or at least it should be!

For those of you who are successfully scheduling your work and home lives most of the time, be sure to do the same for your summer leisure time.  It may sound contradictory, but scheduling fun time doesn't make it any less fun.  In fact, knowing that you have scheduled a trip to the beach, water park or an outdoor concert gives you more time to enjoy thinking about the fun you'll have on
Relax!
beach ball
that date.  Don't make it all about activities, either.  Schedule some real downtime - time to read, listen to music or just swing in the hammock and listen to the sounds of nature.  Even a 15 minute break like this in the middle of your workday can revive you and remind you of what all the work is really for.  If you don't schedule it, though, it's not going to happen, so grab your planners NOW and schedule in your next summer break!

For those of you who usually have trouble with managing your time and scheduling anything, scheduling fun time this summer may be a great way to start using a day planner, calendar, etc.  Schedule your fun activities first, then add in other things you need to do.  Knowing that you have the fun taken care of may make it easier to tackle the not-so-fun things you also have to do.

A Really Simple Organizing Tool
What is it?
Hanger holder - empty
One of the easiest ways to make more room in your clothes closets is to remove unused hangers from the rods.  Unused hangers left between hangers being used take up space, get tangled, and are annoying to try to find when you need them.

This simple tool can help you corral all those unused hangers until you're ready to recycle them back to the dry cleaners or donate them for a tag sale.  I keep mine in my laundry room so the hangers are easy to find when I take clothes out of the dryer.  This version holds over 100 thin wire hangers or 20 plastic ones, and is available online at www.organize.com for less than $6.

A similar item is available in nickelplated steel at
Stack hangers around the rods.
Hanger holder filled
The Container Store in Natick or Chestnut Hil, or online at www.containerstore.com.  It can be used standing (as shown) or hung on the wall.

A third alternative is to stack unused hangers in a basket.

Whichever system you choose, be sure to stack all the hangers in the same direction to make them easier to retrieve without tangling.  When the basket or holder is full, it's probably time to recycle some of the extras!

Please call me if you need additional help organizing your home, your office, or your schedule.  I can come to your home or office and help you there, or do coaching by phone.

I also conduct trainings and do public speaking for  corporations and community groups on Organizing, Time Management and Public Speaking.

My business relies on referrals, so please forward this to anyone you think might benefit from it. Thanks!
Sincerely,
