 LOOKING BACK...AND FORWARD

Year in Review

Well another year has come and gone here at DGI and I have to say that I am ecstatic about the year we've had for our clients.  They have helped us fine tune and develop our products like our Social Media Releases, have helped us enhance our tools such as this newsletter and features such as our four month old "Tweep in Profile" audio podcast.

Kudos have to go to those clients who were directly responsible for this success - names like Hazel Winchester at Agnico-Eagle Mines, Carolyn Abbass, Sinead Brown, Steve Presant, Karen Williams, Laura Ballyntine and Kathleen McMenamin at Paradigm Public Relations, Tina Gladstone at Tina Gladstone Productions Inc., Jill Murray, Teva Harrison, Reena Kudhail, Christine Beevis-Tricket and Jane Gilbert at the Nature Conservancy of Canada, Kari Cuss and Bonnie Dean at the Ontario Dental Association, Martin Waxman of energi PR and so many, many more.  Thank you - without your continued support, business and most of all friendship I wouldn't be able to make a living at pursuing my dreams here.

Looking forward we have many interesting opportunities awaiting us in 2011.  None the least of which is the launch of my brother's second book in the "Looking through the Plumber's Crack" series - Back for No. 2.  This coupled with new and repeat business from those stars mentioned above and more bode extremely well for the "team" here at DGI.

With that - the last and greatest thanks for my success to date is reserved for my support team - Alyson, The Trips and our collective families...don't know where I'd be without your belief in me so here's to you - Happy Holidays everyone - we'll see you in 2011.

An accredited sommelier, she is a member of the National Capital Sommelier Guild, the Wine Writers Circle and several French wine societies with complicated and impressive names. Funny, brainy and unapologetically tipsy, her goal in life is to intimidate those crusty wine stewards at fine restaurants with her staggering knowledge.

December "Tweep in Profile"

April Dunford

I am absolutely thrilled to be ending 2010 with a "bang" by profiling @aprildunford.  April is the Vice-President of Marketing at Solarsoft and is a true student of Social Media and has been an amazing wealth of information for me and - I suspect - all those that follow her.

This month she sat down with "Tweep in Profile" host and producer Donna Papacosta to talk about Social Media tactics, how she ties the medium into her professional/personal lives and finally, gives some predictions for the industry as we look forward to 2011.  So with that...please meet April Dunford.

What do you do?

I'm a product marketing executive that specializes in bringing new products to market.  I've just recently joined Solarsoft Business Solutions as the Vice President of Marketing.  Solarsoft (http://www.solarsoft.com) provides Manufacturing Intelligence and ERP solutions to mid-market manufacturers. We have about 2500 customers globally and our annual revenue is around $100M.

What do you like most about Social Media/Networking?

Professionally I love that social media gives me an outlet to publish helpful, useful information for my customers and prospects which they can in turn, share with their networks. It gives me a way to be relevant and engages with prospects before they are ready to interact with me as a "vendor" trying to sell them something.

How do you use it in your daily life - personal and professional?

People have many, many demands on their attention.  If you want people to interact with you, you need to be remarkable and interesting to get their attention and once you have it you need to get your message across very quickly including what you'd like them to do next.  On the personal side, I've learned that you always have to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, even when they appear to be trying to pick a fight with you.

Where do you see this medium going in terms of your profession?

We will see continued mainstream adoption of Social Media in marketing and an increasing emphasis on driving business results.

How can people Follow or Friend you?

Tanglewood Murders Image"Tanglewood Murders by David Weedmark"   This month I am happy to promote the writings of Ottawa author David Weedmark and his latest penning "Tanglewood Murders".  It is born from the author's experiences working with migrant farm workers in southwestern Ontario, is a compelling work of fiction. Not only a crime novel, The Tanglewood Murders also explores the depth of emotion involved with loss, grief, and love in the midst of a perfectly executed thriller.

To learn more about David please read my friend Lori Flood's guest post from my blog "The Dialoguer" about the man behind the book cover.  If you are a lover of the written word I think you'll enjoy both David and Lori's work.
