Collaboration key to succes for Client Projects

Toast to Successful Collaborations
Have you ever thought about the definition of "collaboration"?  Ever since I began my communications company in 2007 my life's blood has been centred around it - suppliers, my "creative brain-trust", clients and the list goes on.

I looked up the meaning the other day and according to the Meriam-Webster's Dictionary collaboration is defined as the act of "working jointly with others or together especially in an intellectual endeavour."  Along with this definition I'd add - to the mutual benefit of our clients.

Now I've read several books on what makes a successful entrepreneur, business and so on with all great advice.  The #1 thing that has helped me to date has been the development, nurturing and actual implementation of relationships designed for mutual benefit.

Over the past few years and especially in the months to come the future for DGI and the "collective" (if you'll allow me to steal from Star Trek: The Next Generations' Borg) is the fact that collaboration has never been more important.  Being able to maximize the collective brain and physical muscle power around one table designed to enhance the buying potential of our clients is enormous.

In the coming months I'll be living proof of this fact in pretty much every aspect of my business from day-to-day operations all the way to forward looking initiatives that will be designed solely to enhance what I am able to offer my clients in multimedia production, distribution and event management.  Not to say that I could not do every aspect on my own - but where and when there is an opportunity to enhance my client's "virtual team" I am all for it.

With that - I ask this question to you - how often do you come across opportunities for collaboration that either maximize the reach and impact of your day-to-day operations or help you see through the "noise" within the market?  I would love to hear from you with examples of where it made your life or that of your company's that much better.  In the end - collaboration is as imperative to an individual's success every bit as it is an organization's...here's to yours.

The keys to building an online community.

Online Community

In a recent post from Spin Sucks by Daniel Hindin, he asked the question to readers what they thought the keys were of building an online community. What I liked about this post was the fact that he hits upon two points that I think are crucial to establishing a relationship with your online community members - interaction and information.  A little background on Daniel: he is a recent addition to the much coveted team of Arment-Dietrich in Chicago as community manager at Spin Sucks.

As many of my subscribers will attest, this section of the DGI newsletter has attempted to provide a bastion of information touching upon subjects of communications and Social Media so to share this with you seemed quite appropriate.  With that in mind, I wanted to not only share with you Daniel's post but moreover get you thinking about your organization and what you have found to be imperative to building an online community.

Daniel makes a good point about this when he says, "At Spin Sucks we have a passion for truly getting to know the individuals who make up our community. Business aside, many of them have become great friends. Of course, we all like to support our friends, but just because my friend works at a good restaurant, doesn't mean I'm going to eat there every day.

There has to be something more. You absolutely must provide your community with useful information. Not just interesting tidbits or funny anecdotes. Real information. Information they can apply to their lives and to their businesses to achieve success."

For me the keys to building a long-term and mutually beneficial relationship with my online community is striving for true engagement - creating an environment that promotes dialogue and discussion whether you agree or not - the information hopefully encourages you to return in order to share your thoughts.  Thanks to Daniel for opening up this topic and with that I leave you with a similar query - what do you consider the keys to managing your online community?

In this profile, since Abby is a very visual Tweep, I've decided to "show" rather than "tell".  With that - please meet Abby Harenberg.

365days2010
I use Social Media everyday to connect with my friends, to learn something new and to share my projects/work, it is so awesome to get instant feedback about all of these things.  In fact, I am in the midst of a year-long online initiative called "365days2010".  I love this because it is fun and unique in the fact that it has enabled me to keep connected with my networks all while showcasing who I am and what I do.

What is the biggest thing you've learned so far about Social Media and how have you implemented it?

Don't stop believing
I have learned that it is a powerful source to know what is going on in the world.  So for me, it has become a routine to check these sites daily whenever possible to stay in touch.
