TD and CTV go viral with Up Close & Comfortable social media campaign
.
This past month DGI was fortunate enough to work with our clients (Paradigm Public Relations and Tina Gladstone Productions Inc.) in the creation and distribution of another Social Media Release announcing a marketing initiative between TD Canada Trust and CTV.
Along with several mentions on Twitter, Facebook and other Social Networking sites the videos included within the Social Media Release went "viral" as the online publication Media In Canada utilized one of the videos within their News Brief on the date of the launch. (Click on the above image for the article.) DGI distributes Video B-Roll announcing "Gossip Girl" Leighton Meester as new Herbal Essences Brand Ambassador.
On May 26, 2010 DGI distributed Video news B-Roll on behalf of our clients Palette PR and Herbal Essences to television newsrooms across the country. The video featured footage of "Gossip Girl" Leighton Meester announcing her as the new Global Brand Ambassador for Herbal Essences. This was our first project with the team at Palette and we look forward to many more successful collaborations with them.
DGI Oversees another successful Annual General Meeting for Agnico-Eagle Mines

This is the third straight year where we provided event coordination over audio-visual, photographic services and room decor along with providing technical assistance for the company's teleconference and webcast.
Many thanks to my client Hazel Winchester for her continued support and business. To view the webcast of the AGM please click here.

Greetings!

In our Father's Day edition, we share details on the past month's client projects, offer ways of beating the "Heat" and the "HST" and finally in our "Tweep in Profile" we introduce you to Christine Beevis from our client the Nature Conservancy of Canada. We hope you enjoy what you read and experience here and hope you'll share it with you friends, family and colleagues. Happy Father's Day to all of our subscribers - whether you are one, have one or are about to become one. |

Beating the Heat...and the HST
As anyone in Toronto or Southern Ontario can attest - if the summer is going to be anything like the past few days of May then we need to find ways to not only keep our cool but also keep our electrical bills under control. With this in mind I found a website called the Mother Nature Network that has some pretty good "green" tips on how to stay cool this summer and not over burden the power grid or our wallets. (Click here for the article)
Along this same vein, and as the July 1st, 2010 launch date of the new Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) in Ontario looms large, I thought I would plant a seed for those of you hoping to beat the HST. If you (or someone you know) has a multimedia project or event taking place after July 1st you can always pre-book or pre-pay and avoid the additional tax costs. Many clients are looking at creative ways to ensure that the "tax man" doesn't take too much of his share especially this year. By pre-booking or paying before the GST and PST becomes one on Canada Day you can save yourself significant dollars that can only help the bottom line.
Whether you are considering a project with us or have other business or personal projects on the go - it's definitely worth asking the question to your suppliers to see if - they too - are offering similar tax saving incentives. Keeping the money in your wallet makes a whole lot of sense especially if you need to use the dollars you save for more important things - like finding creative ways of keeping cool. |
June's "Tweep in Profile" - @Ceebie
In this month's edition of "Tweep in Profile" I am excited to be featuring one of my favourite "green" members of the Twitter community as well as a client from the Nature Conservancy of Canada - Christine Beevis (or @Ceebie). Christine not only Tweets for herself but she also Tweets for @NatureConsCDA with information about the organization. I think you'll find her as interesting as I do and without further ado - please meet Christine Beevis.
What do you do? By day, I'm the editor of digital and print publications for the Nature Conservancy of Canada. I'm also part of the team responsible for managing our Twitter (@NatureConsCDA), Facebook and Flickr accounts.
By nights and weekends, I'm also a freelance writer, editor, runner, gardener and nature enthusiast.
What do you like most about Social Media/Networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook?
NCC's foray into social media and networking over the last year has been a great learning experience. For so long, it felt like our publications were being sent into an abyss, with no firm idea about how they were being received or who was reading it. Now, social media allows us to have conversations with our followers, to get a better sense of who those followers are and to get their feedback on what we're doing. We've also developed wonderful relationships with groups and individuals who we didn't formerly speak to. In the course of a day's work, I can now speak to colleagues at other conservation organizations, fellow tweeters with green sympathies, or other friends of NCC. Social media has opened up doors to conversations that we wouldn't otherwise be having, and a network of support and enthusiasm for each others' work. How do you use it in your daily life - personal and business?
When we're tweeting/posting for NCC, we tend to post:
- Links to news articles or blogs we think our followers would be interested in;
- Links to stories on our website (In fact Facebook is now among the top 5 direct traffic drivers to our website);
- Polls/challenges/questions;
- Retweets of stories from our followers;
- Answers to questions about conservation. When I'm tweeting for myself as @Ceebie, I may post some of the same links I would post for NCC, particularly because I share a lot of the same values and interests. However, I may also post links that I would not post for NCC because they fall outside our mission and mandate or delve into some of the other areas and hobbies I'm interested in. I also occasionally use Twitter and Facebook for story research for some of my freelance writing. Social media is also a great way for me to establish my personal brand as a freelance writer and editor and to promote some of my own writing.
Regardless of my personal interests, I'm also always keenly aware that I'm still tweeting/posting as a representative of the Nature Conservancy of Canada. At NCC we have a saying - "does it pass the Mother test?" If you're unsure about whether or not to post something on your personal account, think about whether your mother would approve of it. If she wouldn't, maybe you shouldn't be posting that link - because your mother may not be on Facebook, but her friend or a friend of a friend might be...
What is the biggest thing you've learned so far about Social Media and how have you implemented?
I think the biggest thing that I've learned so far about social media is not to take ourselves too seriously, because we're all still learning how to use it. Facebook and Twitter have allowed us to show that we have a personality, a sense of humour and that we're tapped in to current events; we're more than a bunch of serious conservation scientists (a popular post on our Facebook page, for example, was our April Fool's post that claimed we had found flying frogs on one of our properties in BC). When I or my colleague, @RK818, are tweeting for NCC, we make sure to keep it friendly and open. Yes, we're posting/tweeting as representatives for @NatureConsCDA, but if someone asks a question and we don't know the answer, we're not afraid to say that we're not sure - but we'll try to find an answer for them
Where do you see this medium going in terms of your profession?
The social media scene is changing so fast, it's hard to say how things will look in a year from now, let alone a month! At present we're actually in the development phase of @NatureConsCDA's new website, into which we'll be integrating social media a lot more, because it has become an important component of our communications and outreach. I certainly don't see us returning to the abyss of before. Instead, social media will allow us to keep engaging our friends and followers, and to keep those conversations open. How can people Follow or Friend you?
If you're interested in having conversations about nature, the environment, magazine writing, craft brewing or running (yes my list of interests runs wide), follow me at @Ceebie.
(DGI's profile of members of the Twitter, Facebook or other social networking communities is in no way an endorsement of their services and therefore we assume no responsibility for the information provided by them. Consumers need to perform their own due diligence before hiring or seeking advice from anyone relating to their communication needs.)

Big news! Zipcar and Streetcar UK are joining forces to become the largest car club in the UK, and the fastest-growing car-sharing network in Europe.
When the transition is complete, you will have access to more than 1,000 cars in the city of London and the surrounding areas. So, when your plans take you across the pond, whether for business or pleasure, grabbing a Zipcar will be even easier than it is today. Then you can tool around Piccadilly Circus, try to make those guards at Buckingham Palace crack a smile, or take a day trip to Stonehenge.
