TD launches its iPhone Application with 100,000 Downloads.

TD iPhone SMR

This past month DGI was fortunate enough to work with our clients (Paradigm Public Relations and Tina Gladstone Productions Inc.) in the creation and distribution of two Social Media Releases announcing the new TD Mobile App for iPhone and iPod Touch.

"In just over a week, more than 100,000 customers are now ready to bank on the go, wherever and whenever they want," said Joan Dal Bianco, Vice President, Online Channel, TD.

TD announced earlier this month that its free mobile app is now available to download onto iPhone and iPod touch devices. The TD mobile app gives personal and small business banking customers the ability to securely bank on-the-move, and insurance and wealth management clients the ability to easily connect to TD all through one app.

The TD mobile app gives personal and small business banking customers the ability to securely bank on-the-move, and insurance and wealth management clients the ability to easily contact TD all through one app. In addition, a North American TD Locator makes it easy to find TD in both Canada and the U.S. where customers can access their TD accounts without incurring any ATM fees at more than 5,000 TD ATMs on both sides of the border.

Is your company ready for Generation Y?
Gen-Y
Image of Gen-Y Female

In the April/May 2010 issue of Backbone Magazine my sister-in-law shared with me a story written by Ian Harvey which stated that by 2015 there will not be enough qualified people in Canada to fill the jobs available based on a Conference Board of Canada report.  So what does this mean to corporations in the banking, insurance, oil & gas and retail industries?  It means they need to start preparing a workplace and environment that will attract these Gen Y'ers who are keen to strike a work/life balance.

Some of the "fearful facts" about Gen Y's expectations that have most recruiters nervous include:

1.  They're here for a good time, not a long time.  Career paths are fluid and most employees don't expect to stay more than a year or so at any position.

2.  They don't wait to be asked.  Don't be surprised if your newest hires blog or broadcast an e-mail to the entire staff, listing ways the company could be improved.

3.  They don't understand top-down management.  To these kids, a top-down manager is someone who drives a convertible.  They don't work "for" anyone, they work "with" people.

4.  You must give out toys.  Company-issued smart-phones, cool computers and access to all the latest software and unified messaging allows Gen Yers to work anywhere, anytime, blurring the line between work and play.

5.  You may have to offer bribes.  Incentives like iPods, trips and concert tickets are often great ways to get Gen Yers to recommend friends for job postings.

So as you can see the workplace is quickly going to have to adjust its thinking to a more radical shift in recruitment and retention of a new breed of employee...and as the article suggests - they may just be your new boss.

My question to you this month is whether you think your company is ready for the influx of Gen-Y candidates?  Participate in our poll by clicking here.

Zipcar

Big news!  Zipcar and Streetcar UK are joining forces to become the largest car club in the UK, and the fastest-growing car-sharing network in Europe.

When the transition is complete, you will have access to more than 1,000 cars in the city of London and the surrounding areas. So, when your plans take you across the pond, whether for business or pleasure, grabbing a Zipcar will be even easier than it is today. Then you can tool around Piccadilly Circus, try to make those guards at Buckingham Palace crack a smile, or take a day trip to Stonehenge.
