Like the "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" podcasting can appear to be a daunting and vast area to navigate without the advice and guidance of those who do it on a daily basis - but like the book cover says - don't panic.

One of the industry trailblazers in podcasting who can help is Donna Papacosta of Trafalgar Communications, who has a regular podcast known as the Trafcom News Podcast.  In her latest podcast, she offers a toolkit for those of us looking to either offer or incorporate podcasting into our communications. By listening to the podcast, you can hear how the medium itself can be used to share information.

If you are keen to learn more about how you can prepare yourself for the fun and rewarding world of podcasting from an industry expert check out her blog.  In the meantime, have a great journey.

Greetings!
Welcome to Volume Two of our monthly newsletter providing news, information and tips from the world of multimedia.  Thanks to you for making our first distribution such a success - we hope you continue to find the information we share of interest.

In this month's edition we focus on the topic of preparedness - whether getting ready for the holidays, protecting your computer from spyware or setting yourself up to join in on the world of podcasting, we look to provide tips of the trade to get you started.

Creating Top-Down Buy-in for Social Media.
From Tim Horton's to Molson's, corporate boardrooms are beginning to embrace Social Media as a cost-effective and immediate way of communicating with their clients and other stakeholders.

This trend is not just unique to the corporate sector as non-profit organizations such as the are also utilizing Social Media as a way of sharing their message to their various constituents in order to raise awareness, as well as donations to the cause more efficiently and cost effectively.

The key here is - regardless of whether you are a public, private or charitable organization - to ensure that everyone from CEO to receptionist is in tune with your social media program.  The following post from Radical Trust caught my eye as it helps to point the "finger", so to speak, at who within your organization is responsible for ensuring a successful Social Media program.

If you have seen a Social Media program that is helping to enhance an organization's brand, please feel free to forward it to me at andy@donovangroup.ca and I'll share it in future newsletters.

Odds and Sods - Pesky spyware programs and how to keep your computer clean.
Have you ever opened something you know you shouldn't have and ended up with a little pop-up stating that "You have security problems"?  Click on it and you are taken to a site known as "Antivirus 2009" which says it will scan your computer, and for a cost of $60 clean it up of any virus or spyware you may have.

Well, if so, then you were not alone (yours truly included).  Here's a link to how the originator of this program was able to pocket $158,000 in one week as a result of this scam.  Although the lesson here is to never open or download something you are not 100% sure of, if you do, then all I can say is thank God for online discussion groups that helped me find the cure to the annoying little pop-up.  If you find yourself in a similar situation and nothing seems to work, try going to www.bleepingcomputer.com to solve the problem.
Year in Review.
As we come close to the end of 2008, it is always eBay Phishing Video Thumbnailgood to stop and take a look back at what made it memorable.

Was it the Canadian or US election?  Or was it the collapse of the financial sector?  Drop me a note and let me know what made 2008 either a year to remember or one to forget
