BioWorks Bulletin

Info to Grow                                                                            March 2010

Greetings!

We are pleased to announce the newest addition to the BioWorks family of products... Molt-X™ Botanical Insecticide/Nematicide. Recently EPA approved, Molt-X™ has multiple modes of action to provide broad-spectrum control over pests such as aphids, whiteflies, thrips, mealybugs, plant-parasitic nematodes and many more.
BioWorks' Newest Product

Molt-X NewMolt-X, an emulsifiable concentrate with 3% azadirachtin, works primarily as an insect growth regulator (IGR) that disrupts the molting process in insects. Once treated with Molt-X, insects become sluggish, stop feeding, and fail to mature and reproduce. Molt-X also acts as an insect repellent, antifeedant, and ovipositional deterrent. These multiple modes of action make it a highly effective tool for use in a resistance management program.

Other Key Features:
  • Leaves no residue on plant foliage and flowers
  • No phytotoxicity issues on most plants
  • Generally safe on beneficial insects and bees
  • Compatible for tank-mixing/rotation with other registered inputs BotaniGardincluding BotaniGard® and SuffOil-X®.
"This is an excellent compliment to our existing products," comments John Francis, BioWorks' Director of Technical Services. "Molt-X has been tested and shown to be an effective tank-mix and rotational partner with both BotaniGard and SuffOil-X. By using the combinations in a pest management program, you can control resistant insects and reduce the likelihood of resistance development."

It's Inevitable:  Death, Taxes and...Thrips!
By Rich Reineke, Great Lakes Region Technical Sales Manager

ThripsAs soon as you see the first thrips in spring on plants or on sticky cards, you know it's time to start spraying to control them.

Don't wait until your greenhouse is full of flowers and the thrips own you! Make BioWorks products the foundation for your thrips spray rotation program this year.

BotaniGard®, SuffOil-X®, and now Molt-X™ are safe, effective, and economical to use together and in programs with other thrips control products. These products have alternate modes of action and therefore do not contribute to pesticide resistance in thrips.

Use them as tank-mix partners and in rotation when numbers are low to moderate to maintain good control without placing undue selection pressure on the pest population, like the most popular thrips control products. They are great resistance management tools that help preserve the usefulness of new and existing chemistries when used in the rotation.

Save your big guns for when you need them and take a softer yet effective approach in the meantime with BotaniGard, SuffOil-X and Molt-X.

MilStop on Martha
Recently Lloyd Traven of Peace Tree Farm appeared on the Martha Stewart show to talk about begonias. Lloyd also talked about propagating begonias and walked Martha through different varieties.
