Protect Your Investment
By Scott Armstrong, South Reg. Technical Sales Manager

Poinsettia RootsSummer is here, and the temperatures at your nursery and in your greenhouse are starting to climb. Now is the time to "protect your investment" for your late summer, fall, and poinsettia crops that are being planted.

You've invested in the plant material, the pots, the soil, the tags, and the labor. For less than 1% of the total cost, invest in the protection against root diseases (such as Pythium, Rhizoctonia, Thielaviopsis, Cylindrocladium and Fusarium) that become so prevalent in the summer. Invest in RootShield. For 12 weeks of protection as a preventative, apply RootShield either as an incorporated granular, or as a drench.

So you think a preventative costs too much?  You can purchase a 3 lb. box of RootShield WP for an average cost of $200. At our suggested rate of 4 oz per 100 gallons, this 3 lb. purchase will cover over 19,000 6" pots! That is a cost of a little over 1 cent per pot. How much have you already invested in that pot? And for that investment, you have protection that will last you through the hot summer months (12 weeks).

BioWorks also provides you with free lab analysis to confirm proper root colonization. Therefore, we can provide information that the product is present, and at the proper levels.

So before you take that vacation and start to unwind from the busy spring, take that final step to protect your next crops against root disease. Buy some RootShield today!
It's Raining in the Southeast -- Prepare for Disease Control!
By Dr. Chris Hayes, Southeast Technical Sales Manager

It has finally been raining in Florida and most of the southeast; actually too much rain all at once! Thus, growers will start seeing foliar spots from fungi and bacteria. Consider using CEASE - an excellent preventative for powdery and downy mildews, Botrytis as well as bacterial diseases such as Erwinia, Xanthamonas and Pseudomonas.

The rate range for CEASE is 2 to 8 quarts per 100 gallons an acre, depending on disease pressure. It makes an excellent tank mix partner or can be used in rotation.  If you have questions, please contact your regional Technical Sales Manager.
Powdery Mildew Season Looms
By Matthew Needham, West Reg. Technical Sales Manager

Mildew on GrapesAs we move deeper into spring and on into summer, so comes powdery mildew season:  Moderate temperatures of 60 to 80F, high relative humidity at night, low relative humidity during the day, and under shade -- all are most favorable for powdery mildew development. Most powdery mildew fungi produce airborne spores and infect plants when temperatures are moderate. The mildew can spread rapidly since the disease cycle can be completed in as little as 72 hours. Injury due to powdery mildews includes stunting and distortion of leaves, buds, and growing tips. The fungus may cause death of invaded tissue. Yellowing of leaves may result and nutrients are removed from the plant by the fungus during infection.

Protect the overall health of your greenhouse, orchard, nursery or field crop with MilStop. Choose MilStop for curative control of powdery mildew and preventative control of most other foliar diseases. EPA registered, OMRI approved for organic use, with a 1-hr REI makes it a great fit in any rotational or stand-alone fungicide program. Put MilStop in your fungicide program and enjoy your growing success.

CORRECTION!!
Last month's issue of BioWorks Bulletin had an error in the Poinsettia article. When referring to the RootShield products, it should have read:  "Both safely protect the roots for 10 to 12 weeks without harm to the plant, the grower or the environment."  We sincerely apologize for this oversight. It has been corrected in the Archives.  Thank you for your understanding.
