Balance Massage Membership
What exactly is it?
When you sign up as a massage member you receive a 15% discount on any massage you purchase. It's as simple as that.
Your monthly charge is equal to the cost of a 60-minute massage at a 15% discount - $76.50.
At the beginning of the month, when your card is billed, we will call
you to book your member appointment so you don't even have
to remind yourself.
And
- unlike signing up with a gym, where you are billed whether or not
you use the facilities - we ensure you get the maximum use out of
your membership. If you cannot book your monthly appointment, we will
send you a gift certificate to make up for your missed massage. You
never lose your money.
With your commitment, any additional massages you purchase -
whether for yourself or in the form of a gift certificate for someone
else - will also be at a 15% discount. In addition, any special offers
we make to the general public are also always available, at an even
better discount, to our members.
A Balance Massage Membership is
the best and easiest way to make top quality massage and bodywork a
regular and affordable part of your health and wellness routine.

Greetings!
Sometimes it can feel like a real
challenge to fit body wellness into our budgets. Yet the rejuvenating and energizing effects of good body
maintenance provides us with the stamina and fortitude we need to navigate
through the additional challenges of daily life.
And so the question remains:
How can we maintain good body health on a budget?
With this month's newsletter we want to help answer that question. We have compiled a variety of
different options to help you get the most body wellness bang for your buck.
The only question left now: Which one is
right for you?
But we have to leave
that answer up to you.

Getting the Most From Health Insurance
Many plans offer some coverage for body wellness expenses.
Some of you already know that - if Massage therapy is
prescribed as a medically necessary treatment for a diagnosed disorder, or to
assist in recovery from an injury - their health insurance, or the appropriate
accident insurance will cover at least 80% if not 100% of the cost.
However did you also know that many major health group plans and
some individual plans also offer coverage for regular massage therapy in the form of
reimbursement? Check your plan's
benefits carefully and if you're still not sure call and ask your agency's
representative.
At Balance we have already begun accepting some
forms of insurance. Once you have
determined that your health plan covers massage therapy, contact our office
to begin the process necessary to help you receive your full benefits.

Use your HSA
Pay for a variety of out of pocket wellness expenses.
What
is an HSA?
An
HSA, or Health Savings Account, is a "tax advantaged" medical savings
account. Money contributed to the
account is not subject to taxes as long as the funds remain in the account and
are only spent on eligible medical expenses.
Who
can have an HSA?
Any adult can contribute to
an HSA if they:
Have coverage under an
HSA-qualified "high deductible health plan" (HDHP)
Have no other
first-dollar medical coverage (other types of insurance like specific
injury insurance or accident, disability, dental care, vision care, or
long-term care insurance are permitted).
Are not enrolled in
Medicare.
Cannot be claimed as a
dependent on someone else's tax return.
What
are HSA Qualified Expenses?
A
partial list of HSA qualified expenses can be found in the IRS publication 502 Medical and Dental Expenses. A
more detailed list can be found here.
I
don't see Massage Therapy on the list. Is it a qualified HSA expense?
Massage
therapy is an allowable HSS expense if you keep a "letter of
medical necessity" from your health care provider on file with your personal
tax records. A prescription containing
the appropriate information can suffice as a letter of medical necessity. Ask at our reception desk and we can provide
you with the proper prescription form for your doctor to complete.

Yoga
Good for your body and your mind.
The benefits from regular yoga practice are immense. In addition to decreasing stress and increasing flexibility, yoga can also build strength and benefit your posture and your breathing.
Better breathing can improve sports performance and endurance where as better posture can improve day to day living and reduce or even eliminate chronic pain.
If you have never practiced yoga before it's a good idea to take some beginning yoga classes before attempting a home routine. Just like with all new exercise programs it's important to learn the correct postures to reduce the risk of injury and maximize thr program's benefits.
There are a number of yoga studios to choose from and we encourage you try whichever one feels right for you, and when you find that place, we encourage you to stick with it.
For those of you not sure where or how to start, we recommend the all levels & ages yoga classes taught by Candice Mitchell at the Marks Street Senior Center at the corner of Marks Street and Magnolia Avenue in Downtown Orlando. The 75-minute classes cost only $7 and are offered Mondays and Thursdays at 5:45pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:15 am and Saturdays at 10:45 am. There is no plan or membership, you simply pay per class. And the Senior Center has yoga mats, blankets and other accessories available for use so you don't even have to buy new equipment!.
For more information about Candice visit her website, here.
