Greetings!

Join us for a reception in honor of Dr. Jack Driscoll, member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association Real-Time Detection Systems Committee and father of photoionization recognizing him as a major contributor to the field of Industrial Hygiene (IH)  by utilizing his innovative skills as a chemist. We are celebrating the chemistry of industrial hygiene monitoring instrumentation this year because 2011 is the International Year of Chemistry.

The presentation will include the story of how Jack Driscoll, founder of HNU Systems, Inc. commercialized the technology of photoionization in 1973 initially designed for field use by industrial hygienists and three years later applied the technology to gas chromatography for lab-based applications.

Jack will tell anecdotes related to the development of the HNU products and his sales visits in the early 1970's. The first ever sold original photoionizer will be on display-it was donated back to us when it was taken out of service in the industrial hygiene department at a USA chemical manufacturer after 25 years of excellent performance.

Event speakers include:

Geoff Hewitt of Ion Science Americas will speak on the history of photoionization and the early days at HNU Systems, Inc. and Phil Smith PhD, CIH - USDOL-OSHA Salt Lake Technical Center will speak on the impact of photoionization-based instrumentation on the field of industrial hygiene.

This event is made possible by the following sponsors: Northeastern Section of the American Chemical Society (NESACS), AIHCE and

PID Analyzers.
