Sand Hill Road Shifts
Obama in China
Entrepreneurialism in China is going local

Trendspotting: Now that the power is shifting from the overseas "returnees" to a new generation of locally trained and educated entrepreneurs funded by China venture firms, where does that leave Sand Hill Road?
See my column in Forbes.
Extra: Why venture capitalists like veggies in China. Hint: less risk, more oomph (maybe)  See my take in Forbes on Silicon Valley's China strategy.

OBAMA IN CHINAObama in China
On a chilly Tuesday afternoon as U.S. President Barack Obama and Chinese president Hu Jintao were having a power huddle at the Great Hall of the People, I wandered over to Tiananmen Square to get an up-close glance of what was going on. Amazingly, I was able to walk right up, snap these photos and stroll around the Forbidden City (just two hours ahead of Obama's visit) before the cold got to me and I headed back to the warmth of the Hilton in Wangfujing.
Limited partners get tough with VCs

Institutional investors are making venture capitalists sweat over fees and fund performance--with good reason. See AVCJ, Nov. 10 issue.  QUOTABLE: "LPs are in a position to put pressure on fees and carry, and press for other LP-friendly amendments to all but the best-performing managers." Ernest Lambers, EM Alternatives

It's been a rough year but some still got trophies at AVCJ's annual awards

There were some tell-tale signs of tough times in the business, if you looked around the crowds attending the annual
AVCJ Forum and awards dinner. See  Silicon Dragon blog  for an insider's view on what those signs were. Dan Schwartz took publisher honors, and also said his farewells.  Andy Yan of SAIF won the VC of the year award.

Travel Time:
China hotels go for the upgrade
It's been a non-stop tour of China this fall and I've had a chance to stay in some pretty cool places. See my Huffington Post reviews of spots to try next time you're in Shanghai or Beijing. And if your journey takes you to Hong Kong, be sure to stop by the newly remodeled Mandarin Oriental. Check out more of my 'fave' places in Silicon Dragon reviews.
EVENT: Bulls in a China Shop
Hear why Tim Draper, Richard Lim and Glenn Solomon are so bullish on China tech investing. I'm moderating the panel here: Bulls panel at Venture Summit 2009, Rosewood Hotel, Sand Hill Road. Let me know what you'd like me to ask them. Email me at rebecca@qiosk.com.
