Franklin School building exchange with city community center

The Board approved an agreement to exchange the Franklin School building for a building owned by the city of St. Paul. Under the agreement, SPPS would get city-owned property next to Harding High School.

In exchange for the old Franklin Elementary building on Jackson Street, SPPS would acquire ownership of the East Side Community Center, which is next to Harding. Merrick Community Services, which is currently located in the center, plans to relocate on the East Side.  Harding Senior High School plans to use the community center for professional development, parent education and other activities.

The proposed exchange must still be approved by the city.
