2010-11 budget approved
At a Special Board of Education meeting tonight, the Board approved the balanced 2010-2011 budget amount of $623.8 million. The approval means that the District has finalized next year's budget amount well in advance of the June 30 deadline for school districts to submit final budgets to the state. The final budget includes $27.2 million in reductions including co-locations, the discontinuation of the Arlington Senior High School program, staff reductions both centrally and at schools and the move of elementary itinerant music instruction for fifth and sixth graders.


Staffing update
The Board approved the nonrenewal of 117 probationary teachers and one probationary principal.

In addition, the Board approved that Andrew Collins be appointed Director of Turnaround Schools effective mid-June. Additionally, the superintendent announced the following appointments to principal positions throughout the District:

  • Adrain Pendelton, principal at Barack and Michelle Obama Service Learning Elementary
  • Nancy Stachel, principal at Maxfield Magnet
  • Winston Tucker, principal at Highland Park Senior High School
  • Mark Vandersteen, principal at Bridge View
