Budget discussion

Board of Education members received an updated presentation of the District's budget proposals for fiscal year 2011. While the recommendation called for a total of $10 million in cuts to schools, additional allocations of state and federal funds directly to schools mitigate the cuts so that the total Districtwide reduction to schools for fiscal year 2011 will total about $5.7 million. Included in the presentation was the following breakdown of proposed school cuts:

Budget reduction amount:                                -$10,000,000
Additional comp. ed. funds from the state:      +$ 4,172,471
Redirection of ARRA funds to schools:           +$ 1,502,546
Projected adjustment to referendum dollars:  -$ 1,268,142
Reduction to integrations funds:                      -$    102,201

Total cuts to schools Districtwide:             - $5,695,326

School principals can expect to receive budget allocations this week. The Board is expected to take action on the committee's recommendation at the April 20 regular Board of Education meeting.
