The importance of good packing
Wooden crateOur reputation is built upon good quality packaging and we do our utmost to ensure your customers purchases arrive in perfect condition. The role of the packer / shipper is to advise what we feel is the correct method of packaging. This may not always be the clients preferred method .The packer should do their best to accommodate the clients requirements and budget. Unfortunately a jiffy bag in the post generally does not work. Having the object professionally packed offers piece of mind and allows full insurance cover when requested.

There are several factors to take into account when choosing the correct packaging for the object(s)
  • The fragility of the object and value
  • The method of transport, delivery on own vehicle, courier, airfreight , seafreight
  • Destination
  • The clients expectations and budget
In terms of levels of packaging they can be viewed as follows:-
Soft Wrap
Soft wrapAcid free tissue, bubblewrap should provide a first barrier of packaging. Alban Shipping also offers foam Mould packaging as shown in the bronze head above. This is an alternative to flexi strip. The foam mould offers perfect all around protection which can be used on more than one occasion.
Cardboard Cartons
cardboard caseA good grade double walled cardboard carton should be used. The carton can be double boxed, lined with hardboard, polystyrene, or foam to provide additional projection
Travel Frames
Travel Frame We would offer a travel frame for items (s) moved on our art vehicle when a full case pack is not required. The frame ensures we can handle the object confident in the knowledge that the objects edges are protected, and that it can be safely lifted with the carrying handles attached to the case. In the instance of this fossil palm, it was packed into a frame and then packed into a full wooden case, offering a greater level of protection. As the fossil was extremely delicate, it is was imperative that the correct foams where used, providing excellent energy absorption during transit.  You can also line the travel frame with clear polythene so that the object inside is visible for identification and also protected against elements of dust etc.

Wooden Cases
Wooden Case You can have fantastic wooden crates, but if the objects are not suitably protected or supported within the wooden case then damage will occur. To avoid this you should consider packaging smaller items into cardboard cartons, and then packaging them into the case.

Case should be lined with polystyrene / foam. Where required wooden supports should be used within the case.

All cases must have the accredited Forestry Commison stamp for entry into many countries. Alban Shipping's is FC0624.
Putting a name to a face: Adam - Office Manager
Adam Adam joined Alban Shipping at 18 years old as a trainee packer. Seven years later Adam works closely with me as the Office Manager, scheduling vehicle collections and deliveries, undertaking packing instructions, and carrying out all associated tasks in our busy office. Having worked his way up from the warehouse / packing dept, Adam has gained a great deal of experience in packaging which is essential when providing quotes for our clients. Adam should be pleased with his progress and it shows hard work does pay off !
