Spotlight: 2011 Wurstfest New Braunfels, Texas

November 4 - 13

Wurstfest Logo

For those who live in Canyon Lake or in New Braunfels, mark your calendars to attend Wurstfest!

Set along the Comal River in Landa Park in New Braunfels, Texas, visitors from Texas and around the world come to Wurstfest to celebrate German culture by indulging in great German foods, imbibing wonderful brews, and hearing a host of talented musical performers.

Founded in 1961 as a one day festival to celebrate New Braunfels' German heritage, it has now burgeoned into a ten day festival with multiple attractions for young and old alike.

FOOD, MUSIC, AND FUN!

For foodies, you will be in heaven at Wurstfest.  If in the mood for traditional German fare, try the sauerkraut, strudel, funnel cakes, and schnitzel.   If your heart is set on wurst (sausage), you will not be disappointed.  There is bratwurst, knackwurst, bockwurst and wurst of almost anything you can imagine with the preparation as varied as the wurst ingredients.  Buy it smoked, grilled, roasted, boiled, pan fried or even raw.

Wurstfest double At Wurstfest, you'll be surrounded by music.  There are a number of "halles", featuring different kinds of music.  You'll hear traditional German polka to Tejano to Country Western, a musical form that has a special place in the hearts of those who live in the Texas Hill Country.

If food and music are not enough to keep you occupied, visit the Arts and Craft venue, the Kunstahalle, where you will find area artists and craftsmen displaying their one of kind hand crafted items for sale.

For children, there is a place known as the Kinderhalle.  This area features live performers and activities for children from five to twelve.  There is something for everyone at Wurstfest! Fora complete list, see the website, Wurstfest.com.

Wurstfest is just one of the many fun activities to go to if you live in Canyon Lake, Texas.

"A Canyon Lake Homecoming"---

       The Hagans Build at

                         First Mountain

Christine and Chad Hagan have long wanted to build a lake home on Canyon Lake. For each, the Canyon Lake - New Braunfels area holds great memories of good times with family and friends on the lake and river.  Since Christine was a child, she has been travelling to the area to visit her grandparents who have a home on the river in New Braunfels.  Chad had the good fortune of being a frequent guest at a friend's lake house on Canyon Lake and quickly fell in love with the blue water, the hills and the views. Sharing a love of Canyon Lake, they knew they wanted a lake home where their children could experience similar pleasure and joy.

But where to build?   For Christine and Chad, they knew they wanted to live on the south side of the lake because of its unique views and the topography. Chad considers Canyon Lake's landscape similar to lakes in California-blue water, limestone bluffs and unspoiled shoreline.  They also wanted their lake home convenient to New Braunfels and San Antonio where there are many family fun attractions and activities.

After making several trips to Canyon Lake from Houston to look for property, Christine and Chad found First Mountain. Immediately, they knew it was the perfect location to build their lake home.  Chad explains,

"From the moment we drove through the entry, saw the pool area, the design of the streets, and experienced the panoramic views, we knew we had found the place to build our lake home."

Currently, the Hagans are working on their home plans with Jimmy Jacobs, a preferred custom home builder of the community.  They anticipate starting construction of their home this fall.  No doubt, the day they move into their First Mountain home will be a great homecoming for Christine, Chad, and their family.
